So the PM2 is short supply. Demand overkill production...i understand the hype. Everyone gotta have one. I was lucky enough to have gotten one for normal pricing. What's the big deal...I can wait...I have other knives to play with...

Why are so many seller playing hard sales...so many asking 30-50% over normal... Even the bigger retailers are starting to play this game.

Eventually, the hype will die out and anyone can buy one for 1/2 the price. If time is what it needs, we give them.

I got 3 sets of PM2 scales but only one knive...as I am search to buy two more PM2...sellers is asking for an arm & a leg..ridiculous.

If this is about one of those sprint runs with special colored scales and interesting steels I wouldn't blame them.

However, if they are asking 50% more on the regular production models, then SHAME ON THEM!

Not the sprints...that's Understandable. Is for the regular g10 plain...most asking 50% more or asking for full retail price? Who pays full retail anyway....so I'm staying away of late. It will come around....I'm hearing a mass shipment will flood the market end of month, so who ever is feeding these sharks. Don't!!!

It's understandable what they are doing, yet it's a shame...

PM2 is a great bang for the bucks at $120ish, but never at $180, not the regular production model anyway.

I feel guilty. I jumped on the brown sprint (er, distributor exclusive) w/S35VN. It's my first PM2. Yeah, I paid the premium. :o

Getting the sprint is arguably a good decision. But I'm stripping the scales immediately for a
Mod...I ain't paying premium. Likely I can go for a use one. But use ones also wants premium

I'm fascinated. I didn't realize how lucky I was to find a digicam PM2 in stock a few weeks ago. I now have a PM2 and a left hand military purchased for less than the buy it now price on some production PM2s on that auction site.

The "sprints" are even crazier in that most of them aren't even true sprints, but actually dealer exclusives. There's a blue bid up to nearly $400 right now, I remember seeing these in stock back in December. According to the Spyderco Web-site, the dealer can probably still order more if they want:

"Spyderco Exclusive - This is defined by Spyderco as a production of any Spyderco product at the request of a wholesale customer in a configuration different than what has been previously produced... the customer reserves the right to re-order this item while it is under the exclusive contract. In most circumstances, Spyderco reserves the right to re-produce the item after contractual obligations have been fulfilled."

At any rate, I can't really blame anyone for trying to make a buck when people are willing to pay these inflated prices, but I won't be paying them...

I have one PM2, and would like to obtain more of the production models (black/black for sure) but I can wait. I refuse to pay the inflated prices, for once in my life I am going to exercise patience. :) There are a lot of other great knives I can spend my hard earned money on.

That's a great pic "powernoodle"!

Problem is everyone know PM2 are fast movers....Especially Spyderco. But if they consolidate their production strength on the PM2, what about the stocks of other models floating around in the market. It's a waiting game & see who got more patience.

I picked up a brown S35VN PM2 from Knives Emporium ( a paid dealer but not on reddevil's list, so edit this out if its inappropriate). Paid $165 shipped for it, it goes for $150 on bladehq, and they only had 1. I have to say that I don't feel gouged at all, I paid a slight premium not to have to wait. I consider a 10% markup to be reasonable in this circumstance.

[EDIT] I think asking 30% - 50% over list for a non-limited run knife is robbery plain and simple. Thankfully we can vote with our dollars and support honest business' that don't gouge or take advantage. If a particular dealer gets greedy on a certain model, we can always show our disdain by not paying that markup.

People always LOVE the free market when it works in their favor. When it's not in their favor, it's a scandal. ;)

Maybe I should sell my digicam one while there's a shortage....:D

I'm happy with my digicam Para 2
Great knife
I won't be buying any of the higher dollar sprints though.
I thought $180 was a bit steep for the Blue Para 2
If it's $140 for sprints, I'd consider another Para 2!

Supply and demand. It happens to all sought after knives. It's the way it goes.
Examples
Hinderer's listed at 2, sometimes 3 times more than the price they paid
ZT0777 Going for about MSRP + another $200-300
And much more, I'm not aware of.

Yeah, but this is our escape from such problems, it's another problem. ;)

Of all the PM2's I have had, sprint and not, my favorite is my Digi Cam S30V standard. What a great knife for $98!

relax man!
the Para is a great knife and it won't disappear all of a sudden.
give it time and you'll find many at the right price.
