I'm ready to give up on GEC.

Could be worse, there could be no GEC at all.

I really have a pretty tight knife budget. Normally I sell something to get something (that goes for customs, and production), so there is no gain without giving something up.

thanks, i've been looking on there but didn't find what i'm looking for. 72 lockback clip point in plum bone.

Sometimes, for various reasons, some dealers don't list all the knives they have. Send an e-mail or other query to dealers and tell them what you're looking for and ask them if they have one. Even if they don't have one, you can ask them to be on the lookout for one and most of them will do that to help you out - at least a good dealer will. I've done that very thing and found a knife I'd been looking for.

Heck, GOOGLE the knife (exactly - i.e., GEC #72 Plumb Bone) you're looking for. You just might just be surprised what'll turn up.

Ya gotta be willing to spend time searching. Plenty of brand spaning new GEC knives end up at non-GEC dealers. Ya just gotta look and look.

I looked for well over a year high and low before I found the 2009 Barlow. I am still looking for certain 25's. You just have to be diligent and be ready when they come up, and they do come up.

On another note, the chase is supposed to be part of the fun...LOL.

It is definitely much harder if you start looking for a knife that was the most popular in it's series a few years ago. You can keep an eye out for it, but if that is the only knife you want - I would say you are already way ahead of most of the rest of us. What will make you even sicker, is to get the past years production numbers and decide you would really like some of those 1of5, 1of7, etc. runs.

I first found GEC in 2010. Since then I have bought quite a few but have always searched for a particular arrangement of the #25WLST which I would love. I thought I'd found one the other day, I'm awaiting an email about it, but I'm trying not to get too excited in case the person comes back with "oh, actually it's not ebony it's black micarta" or something. I've also missed so many 2011 Forum knives by seconds on the exchange... But it's all part of the hunt. Even I f I finally get one, I'll probably start searching for another perceived perfect one...

5. Vegemite, Marmite, Bovril, Peanut Butter, Jelly
Promite -don't forget Promite its the best of that ilk.

The dealer got back to me. He hadn't updated his site and did not have what I had seen. Sigh. The search continues...

I managed to find a Northfield #66 Muskrat in stag from a dealer long after all of them should have been gone, same with a NF banana bone #61 half-Congress. It just took awhile, keep on hunting and I hope you find one

I know that feeling well also. I also remember eyeballing a pretty blue WLST on a dealers site, only to have it disappear one day. Funny thing is, Pertinux popped up here a few days later with what looked to be it's twin......hmmmm suspicious.

cards94::-- I clicked on your forum name and see no way to get ahold of you.

Is this what you are looking for? It is a GEC "NORTHFIELD" with plumb bone jigged covers and swedged blade. Ding, ding, ding, - my brain engaged after I shut the computer down last night or at least went to bed and it popped into my mind that I had it.

I've used it a bit and it's got some scratches on it (couple file marks on the well side of the bolster, etc.) but NO blade play at all.

We don't normally say this in the open forum but since I have no way of getting ahold of you, click on my avatar and send me an e-mail with your USPS mailing address. Make the subject GEC 72 so I'll know to open it AND I'll send you the knife for free if you're 18-years old or older - you gotta say it in your e-mail. No strings, no nothing. I'd want nothing in return. MODS if this isn't ok with you guys (it's a one time thing for me; won't do it again) for posting this last paragraph just strike it out.

cards94 - Please respond as soon as possible.

EDIT to say: For all you forum members that don't at least activate the "contact by e-mail" option in your selections, you're missing out.

EDITED AGAIN: Took a break, went out to my shop and retrieved the tube. The cap says "# 721112 Plum Jigged Bone". I wiped the knife down with an oily rag, reoiled it, wrapped it in the waxed paper, put it in the tube and it's sitting here ready to go. Even put the whole thing in a USPS Priority Mail box.

THIRD EDIT: I finally figured out how and actually have sent you a VM (Visitor Message) but I've asked Frank to let this post stand as is in order to give you the best shot at seeing this offer. The box is sealed - all it needs is your address.

PLEASE: No pats on the back guys. A guy needs a certain knife, I've got one. No big deal.

Wow, incredible generosity! Good on ya, Ed. :)

To the OP of this Thread - don't give up on GEC, we are extremely lucky that we have a Traditional knife company who will work in with people such as Charlie and do SFO'S on such a frequent basis - we have something special in this company, and now it looks as though YOU have something special. Well done ed!
