I'm sorry, but does anyone else get a kick out of...

In an effort to beat the dead horse completely and totally into submission....

The two "international buyers" I have dealt and had issue with were from countries where Engrish was the first language.

I sold a Custom Shop SFNO to an artist in Austria last year. He willingly paid the ~$150 "overnight" fee for UPS shipping and accepted the full declared value. I would sell to someone like him again in a heartbeat.

My fam and I just moved back to the US from the UK. UK knife laws are steep: if you're a licensed butcher with a butcher knife on his/her way to or from the butcher shop you work in you MIGHT be ok. Anything else and you're signing over your firstborn.

I honestly can't imagine what anyone in the UK might actually do with this kind of knife outside of put it in a glass case and stare at it. But then again, I lived in Scotland. The English tend to get jumpy when Scots carry big steel :)

I'm in Argentina myself and I dont get it how these scams work. I mean, when I buy something I pay first with paypal (as I suppose we all do) , then get the product shipped. If it doesn't arrive I'm the one out of luck, the person that sold it to me isnt affected. How do these scams work?

I speak English and Bulgarian. I used to be conversant in German as well, but a decade and a half of disuse and learning Bulgarian while I lived there for two years means I can only say the very basics in German any more.

For a period, while learning Bulgarian, I used to dream in Bulgarian, English and German all at the same time!

I have only ever sent one Busse to a buyer in Australia. Went smoothly (but he had good feedback here, and long time member).

Rest assured sending them on to Australia... we're mostly good blokes!!

and we speak english.. usually adequately :D

+1 jaxs. Most of my mates speak a type of english........ ;) And they are all good blokes !
I blame internet translators for some posts I have seen....there is no way a new english speaker would come up with some stuff I have seen ! :)

From my experience I have to agree with that. I just sent two knives to a fellow in Australia and he was great to deal with.:cool:

Big topic :) Yes, he MIGHT lose his hand. However, judges in KSA do not impose irreversible punishments easily. A whole set of criteria has to be met to justify an amputation. That's why it is more common for thieves to be sentenced to prison - which ain't no fun either. As a foreigner he would also be banned from the country after enforcement of the sentence.

If the buyer pays with Paypal using the commercial option (ie not the gift option) he has the option to register a claim/complaint with Paypal, which usually ends with them giving the money back to the buyer. If the seller does not have a confirmation of receipt, he is up sh1t creek, so he'd better be insured, but even that will mean time and effort to get the money from the insurance.
I am often frustrated by Americans who do not sell to me, but I can't blame them. The gains are often not worth the risk and trouble.
I just count my blessing with the ones who do choose to deal with me, and I always make sure they're not sorry. ;)

Well said.......I could not agree more. We have some fantastic people on this forum and I have been able to buy any knife that I have wanted. Even some forumites who specifically state that they only ship CONUS have agreed to sell to me with everyone being satisfied.

The key to my successful trading on BF? Excellent communication, patience and good research of the various shipping and customs rules........

When I make a purchase offer I provide the US seller with all the USPS info and facts he needs to feel confident in shipping to me. I always cover the full shipping costs and I am very specific about which USPS service to use and wether or not I want insurance.
I always ask the shipper to state the full value on the package and never lie about the contents.

Deal with folks in the same way that you would like to be treated and it will all work out.

Yes we do. I once wanted to buy a Spyderco Citadel but could find no US dealer shipping internationally. I vented here on the forum and two separate members PM'd me and offered to buy it for me and ship it to me at no extra charge. Personally I find it a hassle going to the post office with a package to send it off somewhere but I'll do it for a sale. These guys offered to do it for a total stranger at no charge. I am now the happy and proud owner of a black Citadel thanks to one of those guys (you know who you are, thx again, I do not forget!)
Yep, mostly great folk here. :)

I speak two myself.

My first is southern redneck.
My second is English, but I'll never master that one.

I've purchased from BFs and had the items shipped to Australia without any issues whatsoever.

Insofar as languages are concerned I speak English just fine. Nothing remains of my two years of German in high school however...
