Hey,

THats right , i have been behind, not gotten knives to people on time, i still have outstanding backorders to do, i have even messed up on a few orders and sent the wrong configured knife out (double guard) instead of a single guard. Im a terrible buisnessman, i get to involved in making knives and forget to do emails, i promise to short of a delivery time, when i should make it longer. And i still have a problem sorting through all the mess when i packed up everything i had before i moved to find out where i am on everything.

How to rectify this,

1- No more taking orders from anyone prepaid or not
2- Getting my backlog caught up as fast as i can.
3- Not promicing anything to anyone anymore
4- Never again taking deposits for any knives or anything else

I apologize for not being that great of a buisness person and not being as honest as i could have been about delivery times, Im not worried about the quality of my Knives,,,,,they speak for themselves.

But i am sorry i am not up to par buisness wise as i should be, i am trying to be ,,now that i have a wife that actually is smart at buisness i hope it will be better letting her handle the buisness end of it.

Allen

Well Allen you replied to my email last week with an honest answer about my neck knife so that counts for something. While I still don't have the knife I am expecting it any day.I will only speak for myself but you are not the first maker I have delt with that has let a delivery date slip.:)

Stan

hey, big guy, your honesty, and concern
for your client's is refressing.
I have no idea what you sell/make but
my trust is with you.
you know, because a person is a excellent knife maker,
does not automatically make him a good buisnessman.
it all come's with time. i'm sure Crawford's main concern in the
begining was to make the best knife he could.
(just using him as an example !)
so hang in there, you have my vote of confidence.
Hell, i might even order a knife from you, after your
sincere post !
hang in there, the order's are on the way !!!!!!

:D  ;)

I can certainly understand getting behind on delivery dates and mixing orders up, if fact I may be the king of that myself!

So Allen does this mean you are going to start paying your bills as well? I know a lot of people wondering about that.

Rob
You can't be the king. I been it for a couple years. Maybe you are the queen:) As the old saying goes "Until you walk in my shoes, don't complain about how they need polishing" :)

Allen, you experience the same thing that every "seller" goes through. No matter how big or small you are, orders and promises "fall thru the slats" Most buyers understand that and will understand the honesty and humility you have shown. We all do what we can. A few will flame a seller at the drop of a hat, even with appologies out the wazzoo...to those, say goodbye,,those folks are just looking to be insulted and abused. As a retailer, often times my service is only as good as the service I receive from manufactures and distributors. If they do not deliver, I can not deliver. Dealers understand...consumers most of the time understand. Those that do not, have no clue as to what we "retailers" go thru...(whine, whine, sniffle, sniffle)...Regards, Mike

Allen,
When I meet you at your shop in Spokane last year I liked what I heard and saw... Gave you my order and $... I have no concerns on you
fulfilling and delivering the knives. Do what you do best, make knives. Patience is a virtue..
Take care my friend,
Rick

Hell Allen, let me let you in on a little secret. Last October/November I ordered 4 customs from different makers. Yourself being one of them. I was quoted delivery dates ranging from March to May. I have yet to receive a single knife. Sure I would like my knives as soon as possible just like anyone else. But you know what, shit happens. Sometimes it is just out of my hands. All I can do is wait until the knife is ready. So don't beat yourself up over this. Get them done when you get them done. I would much prefer to wait a little longer and have something that is done right, than to get a sub-standard knife a little quicker. I guess mine should be about perfect by now :D

There was a time that I was Pissed (with a capital P) at Allen over his buisness practices (mad enough to consider legal action and consult with an attorney ), then after a long, frustrating wait my knife came and it was well worth the wait. Allen really does do incredible work, the grinds, symetery, fit, finish and balance of the knife is perfect
The edge on this knife (a fieldtrek model, six inch blade of dif temp 5160) is far sharper than any other NIB knife, custom or production that I have ever seen, an absolutely scary sharp edge,
The craftsmanship his products display is incredible and his knives are a bargain, thus there is a wait.
Take care and stay sharp,
Chad

Gotta agree there Chad, I had one of his 8" bladed Combat Patrol Bowies that a nefarious person in Alaska, I won't mention Kodiak PA's name, had squirreled that off of me and I do miss it, it was very well made and balanced....the only reason, again Greg Mete's name won't be listed, that rascal was able to get it away from was that I had a CPM3V bladed one on order, shorter blade, stainless hardware and cocobolo handle, so I reasoned that I could live without the other one, it's a wait to be sure but Allen is working through this set of hard times, give him the benefit of a doubt and a little break, he'll pull through and you all will be taken care of I'm sure...

Gee thanks Chad, although I'm sure your intentions were good with your post you just made all of us that are waiting on a knife from AB want it all the more.

I've told Allen, no knife is life or death for me at this point, I still want my knife as soon as he can get to it. My only problem with waiting was every time I heard from him it was, "Your knife is finished it just needs some cosmetic work done and you'll have it in two weeks." After several months of that I told him, "Cosmetic work? Just slap some lipstick on it and ship that baby out." Finally I stopped asking knowing what his reply would be. Then I started wondering if anyone had got a knife from him so I asked in Chat. Nobody had, and several guys were still waiting. This conversation in Chat got back to AB, and he actually got pissed, at me in particular. I sent him an E-mail explaining my position and I finally heard back from him and for the first time he let me know not to expect my knife any time soon. I have the feeling I'm on the bottom of his list. :(

I did encourage him to let all of his customers know what was really happening, and that may be what inspired this thread. I still like Allen and I'm glad he started this thread before someone else posted about him on this forum, which only could have lead to a real sheet storm, and some really bad feelings.

I honestly don't know if I'll ever see my knife?
I do know if I do it will be great.
I would love to hear that someone is getting the knives they have on order, it will give me some hope.

I agree no one can argue with the quality of his knives. I had him do some grinding for me once! The rest? :(

hello,

Oh good, the naysayers emerge, thats ok,,,, in fact whoever wants to cancell anything they have on order with me that they didnt prepay me for , thats fine, those that did prepay me on there own accord because it was easier for them to do so, i will finish there knives for them, or sell them and refund there money. I am just going to go find another regular job and do my knives for myself and put them away in a drawer or sell them at a gun show and such, i got into making knives because i was good at it and figured i caould do what i like to do. But its ok if i have to get out of it. I have the equipment i can make them for myself and friends. I have a few i am sending out that i expect the persons to uphold there commitment to buy when they arrive still, but i am just going to get out of the knifemaking as a job and do it as a hobby for myself.

Like i said i know i have been behind, who hasnt that offers good knives at low prices, but i guess i should have quoted long backlogs instead of getting ahead of myself order wise.

I have had good dealings with Rob, and good dealing with Allen, and I think it sucks that two of my favorite makers are busy fighting publicly. :( Hopefully this will all get worked out one way or another!

Although I have no part in any of this, I couldn't help but read through these "soap opera threads":) and wish to comment on this publicly aired problem.

Sounds like Allen Blade is a true artist, and sometimes artists just don't make good businesspeople. In Allen's posts, he talks about getting some of his designs ripped off. If so, I hope it is a learning point. Somehow, we have to protect ourselves from being taken advantage of. It can happen to anyone, given the proper circumstances. I'm just guessing that Allen B. was going through some bad s*** at times and it got him down or messed him up.

I don't think Rob Simonich should be blamed for posting. He consulted with others and talked to Spark about it. Should this "soap opera" have been given BF "airtime?"

Well, if it results in things getting taken care of, maybe it was a good thing. Now suck it up and drive on.

Cori Blade seems like a take charge sorta person. I wish her luck. Maybe she is what her husband needs to get things straightened out.

Again, just my forum reading based opinions. Interesting, though, and shows what might lie beyond the surface of all sorts of interactions.

Wishing all well,

Karl

I don't know nothing about this stuff going on, but I wanted to say that I have dealt with Allen Blade and received a top notch product with excellent service. In fact, I plan on trying to talk him into a talonite chipmunk when all this blows over.
