I'm thinking of getting a SOG Seal Pup Elite for camping...

If you want something that just looks awesomely bad-*ss, then that that's cool. I'd say save up some more pennies and get yourself a Dark Ops or Myke Hawke Hellion.

Nobody was being "harsh." You said you

A tiger striped, serrated Seal Pup ain't it. Unless you are "playing Rambo deep behind enemy lines" camping. Deep in the jungles of Wisconsin...licensed to kill elm saplings...surrounded by "charlie" (chipmunks)....

Don't forget the tiger-stripe face camo! :D

If you want something that looks cool to you...get whatever. We can't tell you what you think looks cool...can we?

If you want a tool to use while camping, and want a SOG...I suggest the NW Ranger.

I'd just skip it entirely and get a Vic Farmer and Mora.

is that when you "pop" the red smoke?

I have beat teh crap out of my seal pup for 8 years now and it is still my first choice for camping and outdoor chores. If you can get one at a good price they are a great choice.

I paid $55 for my seal pup elite. I'm planning on buying an older version Seal Pup as well. My Elite came really really sharp and with a little stropping it is extremely sharp, like OopsITouchedTheBladeWhere'sAllThatBloodComingFrom sharp. I find the handle very comfortable and I even like the nylon sheath. The edge retention is not an issue for me, and I generally like the "cheaper" steels because I don't tend to chip out the edges like I do on my "premium" steel knives.
I'm not a fan of SOG by any means. They make some terrible terrible folders in my opinion, but I have always like the LOOK of their knives and I'm glad I bought a seal pup.
YMMV of course.
