ESEE Knives® and DPX Gear (Robert Pelton) have completed an agreement to totally separate the two companies. Even though the two companies have been separate from the beginning there was an increasing issue of confusion that DPX was a part of ESEE® as another of ESEE’s brands like Izula® or Junglas®. There was also a realization that the direction of marketing and philosophy was different enough so that we couldn’t devote 100% effort and remain true to our goals and stated philosophy. In short we were finding that our target in the marketplace was in two different directions. To resolve those issues DPX will now handle all its own knife manufacturing and warranty work. All DPX products including HEST knives have been discontinued with ESEE Knives. DPX HEST fixed blade production will resume at the discretion of DPX Gear under a different manufacturer and without the association to ESEE®. ESEE will continue to warranty HEST knives made with the ROWEN name on them.

We remain friends with Robert Pelton and wish the best for DPX Gear and Robert. Please visit the DPX Gear forum here in the manufacturer’s section of Blade Forums for information about production plans for HEST and future HEST/DPX products.

As a side note, to all of this, we will be re-introducing the Laser Strike to our lineup to replace the HEST. Prototypes of the new Laser Strike should be available around SHOT show time.

To all dealers and distributors who have pre-ordered the HEST Folder: Patricia will be sending each of you an email by the end of the week with instructions on how to proceed with getting your orders filled. In short, Robert Pelton / DPX gear is taking over shipping all dealer/distributor orders for the HEST folder.

Mike, Jeff, Patricia, Shon and Becky would like to thank all of you for the continued support of ESEE Knives. We appreciate every one of our customers!

Thanks for the announcement Jeff! Best to you and Pelton/DPX in the coming year!

well thats too bad. hopefully they can get another manufacturer to make that HEST fixed blade.

at least the laser strike will be introduced. that sounds cool.

We have nothing but good things to say about DPx Gear. It's merely a difference in philosophies and the confusion issue that brought this about. Look for DPx Gear to become a major player in this market. Good stuff and good people.

Best of luck to DPX & Mr. Pelton.
good news for the rest of us about the Laser Strike!

Mike & Jeff As odd as it may sound, I am actually very happy that this has happened because IMHO, that folder was not a good direction for you guys to go into because of too many reasons to go into here.

If I were you I would be breathing a quiet sigh of relief and looking forward to launching the Rowen made Laser Strike at Shot Show. I will be very surprised if I don't buy one sight unseen!

If my LE folders don't ship as shown on the countdown, I will be demanding my money back to buy real ESEEs.

With my best wishes ...

Just know the HEST folder is a good product and well worth the $$$ and wait. There have been some issues that caused delays but they have been worked out. Lion Steel and Pelton are good folks. Don't run from them just because of the separation of the two companies. Hell, I'm carrying a HEST prototype folder in my pocket right now and LOVE IT!

Well time to sell my HEST!!!:D j/k..

question though, if you honor the dpx/rowen warranty and replace the knife with a new one (other then rowen manufacturer) how will the knife then be covered under the new manufacturer warranty?

I know this question is premature as the transition is not yet complete for dpx and (new) manufacturer, but I will say I bought this knife thinking it was directly connected to ESEE, and if dpx deviates from your no nonsense warranty then I honestly say I'm no longer interested..

I too wish RYP/dpx etc all the success in their new venture..

ETA: I'm totally stoked about this Lazer Strike already !!!

Take Care,

Rob

Thanks for the announcement, sometimes people and companies head in separate directions. It is good to hear that this is a separation that everyone can benefit from.

We are maintaining a certain number of ROWEN made DPx HEST knives in stock for any future warranty replacements. But we will ONLY honor a HEST built by Rowen, so if the HEST gets made elsehwere and breaks, then that's not our issue. It's pretty easy for us to know if a HEST was made by Rowen.

Only good things to come from both Companies !
help out the MODS by please posting anything related to the HEST in the proper forum
thx
TTD

I'm thinking my Rowen made HEST will command higher prices on the used market in the future ;)

Good to hear the news! It sounds like the best move for both companies. It was good while it lasted, but it's time for both parties to move in their own respective directions.

it would be very nice if Rowen would continue to make the HEST fixed blade...even if for DPX Gear this time...i guess that depends on many factors
its good to hope...we will see

+1 on this. it would seem to be the simplest solution for RYP / DPx to have the HEST back in production ASAP, and should only require a change in the laser engraving and where they ship the completed products too.

that is, assuming there's no contractual agreement with Rowen that prevents that from happening.

wish everyone the best. it just seems like an odd time to do this with the HEST/F about to ship. no doubt a few people will be confused by the change but it's not too hard sorting things out. that's been going on with the Ontario/Rat stuff for a while.

So does this mean that the Izula folder is still an ESEE project out there on the horizon?

It doesn't take long for people to start choosing sides, does it?

I have never understood this. As a consumer, I buy from whomever I choose. It is no insult anyone if I buy a Becker, DPX, Busse or an ESEE or whatever. I like a competitive American market. Competition keeps them all on their toes. A lot of it just comes down to personal preference anyway.
