Important announcement regarding DPx Gear and ESEE Knives

+1 on this. it would seem to be the simplest solution for RYP / DPx to have the HEST back in production ASAP, and should only require a change in the laser engraving and where they ship the completed products too.

that is, assuming there's no contractual agreement with Rowen that prevents that from happening.

wish everyone the best. it just seems like an odd time to do this with the HEST/F about to ship. no doubt a few people will be confused by the change but it's not too hard sorting things out. that's been going on with the Ontario/Rat stuff for a while.

There is no legal or contractual agreement that keeps the HEST being made by anyone Robert desires to make it. If Shon wants to build them for Robert then that is strictly between Robert and Shon, and there is no hard feelings anywhere. ESEE has nothing to do with how someone runs their own company. Guys, this whole split is not about choosing sides or saying anything is good or bad. This split is strictly a business decision that is best for both companies, nothing more. DPx and Robert are good to go in our opinion and we will do whatever we can to help them succeed in this industry just like we will for anyone else. Why is it that when a change happens, people always want to choose sides. I refuse to choose a side in just about any disagreement between other parties because when you look at both sides they typically both have merit.

This seems like a logical choice to me. The HEST always seemed to be an awkward fit in the ESEE lineup in my opinion. The laser strike seems to fill the empty slot very nicely if the pics are accurate.

This move also lets DPx market to the urban crowd with a full line, rather than some ESEE offerings here and there. Seems like a solid move for both companies.

So here's to hoping for the best for all parties involved!!! More knife companies catering to the enthusiasts is better for the industry and for us. Lets hope RYP flourishes in his market.

A no-nonsense resolution to an difficult issue, handled with class and professionalism from a company that I admire and continue to support with my business. Well done.

We still need the Izula folder, btw.

Wow, someone actually understands it instead of coming up with a million conspiracies. Thank you!

DPX has always been about a larger mass market and a life style. ESEE has always wanted to stay small and low-keyed. Simply a difference in philosophies. Doesn't mean that either one is wrong. For example: you will NEVER, EVER see an ESEE knife in WalMart or Bass Pro shop. Period! We don't like the beat down controlling market that those asshole companies are. You may indeed see a Dpx brand in large box stores some day.

Seems like this a good thing for both companies. I believe that better products will come quicker from both, as long as they can stay lean and fast on their feet.

I, for one, am looking forward to products from both that are purpose built without compromise (not saying that the HEST or the HEST Folder are).

And I don't think that anyone is ruling out synergistic collaberations...its been done before.

Best of Luck to both DPX and ESEE!

I think it's a great thing that the ESEE folks are being very up front about this decision. I also find it a bit amusing how quickly this gets turned into an 'us vs. them' kind of thing, when that was obviously not the intent. If nothing else, it does reveal an enthusiastic following.

I considered a HEST fixed-blade, but after having first bought an ESEE 3MIL it seemed a bit redundant. The HEST folder is too much like my Buck/Strider collaboration, which is too heavy for me to want to EDC in business clothes. So as it turned out the DPX stuff isn't my speed.

The two product lines (DPX Gear and ESEE) seemed to be a bit divergent, and that's not a bad thing, but I can see how it makes good sense for the two business concerns to go separate ways.

Many thanks to the ESEE team for their being so close to their community of users.

We don't like the beat down controlling market that those asshole companies are.

The Man Who Said No To Wal-Mart.

Wal-Mart and other looting locusts demand that the manufacturer supply more product for less with every passing year.

ESEE is a lot like Snapper is, or used to be, I don't know if they still refuse to deal with Wal-Mart. Someone who owns and uses ESEE knives knows how to take care of them, or they learn in here. They know how to sharpen them. They're not disposable tools. You take care of your tools, they will take care of you.

The vasy majority of companies that do business with Wal-Mart produce disposable shit for morons. I purchase stuff there only when I have to and it's nothing of any real importance for this reason. I've had multiple electric can openers take a shit, went to manual hand crank type, garbage. Wal-Mart doesn't care to correct QC problems because they are causing the QC problems and, hey, they make more money. The government makes money and the local government makes sales tax money so no one really cares about the situation except smart people. It is almost 2011 and I use a P-38 can opener or a Camillus Demo Knife to open cans in the kitchen. Why? They work. They work because they are old tools and they were made to be used and they were made to last.

My mother, I am sure, still has the sickly yellow Sunbeam Brand can opener that she had when I was born. 42 years ago. Had a sillyassed grindstone in the back for destroying kitchen knives. :D

that's very good to know, and it seems like it would sure make things simplest for RYP to keep rolin' with Rowen. but that;s just the view from here and thee's probably lots of other factors i have no clue about.

best wishes for everyone.

I am the only one that had to google the Laser Strike? Never heard of it untill now...

Anyways, i wish both companies best of luck.

i see what's going on here...collaboration with ka-bar/becker with the eskabar, and now dpx gear has a separate forum now. you can't escape it, everywhere you look you're bound to see esee's name in a post...esee is taking over bladeforums!:p

p.s. i think it's an excellent move on both parties.

The conspiracy has been revealed! Any press is good press as long as they spell the name right :D

I just figured it was a case of DPx was done incubating and ready to hatch/fly on their own.
you all have been pretty upfront about the differences in gear philosophy from day 1 of the HEST announcement.

We absolutely have but some people just get way too confortable and scared shitless of change that they totaly freak out when we take a different path.

All I can say is if they can't handle this small diversion with the separation of DPx and ESEE then they will probably commit suicide in the future when we make changes.

As for dealers, someone on the DPx forum was bitching about a dealer being pissed off. That's probably one of the same dealers that's still selling under the RAT Cutlery name after we have told them a million times to change it to ESEE. In short, if customers and dealers can't deal with changes and a fluid market state, then they do not need to deal with ESEE. We DO NOT do things within the industry norm. Basiclaly we could give the first damn about the industry norm. We do things our own way and if someone doesn't like it then buy your stuff from someone else. We set the mark on some things and simply refuse to follow others because "that's the way it's suppose to be done." So, anyone that doesn't like our recent decision, find somewhere else to bitch.

Where does the hest folder stand now ? ina bit unclear as if it will come out from dpx or is it totally sh*t canned ?

NOTHING has changed about the HEST Folder. NOTHING. The only thing that has changed is who will be distributing them. DPx is distributing them, not ESEE. ESEE's name was never going to be on the folder. The ONLY thing ESEE was doing was distributing it.

And we haven't even told yall about the .22 survial rifle thingy we're working on. Yet another collaboration of our ideas mixed with a small manufacturers ideas. I guess when we finally get that to market everyone will bitch when ESEE decides to part ways and do something else. Jesus people, you have to get a handle on yourself. Go play with the kids, drink a beer, watch the furit trees grow...do something that's more important than worrying about whether ESEE is having sex with its partners.

That makes me lol, and makes me want to know more at the same time.

Yes you are the only one. No, not really. The first time I heard the name I had to research it. Of course when Jeff introduced it in a post 10 years ago I was raising my hand so I could get permission to go take a piss. :D

People are still crapping themselves over the name change which is creeping up on 1 year ago!
