IMPORTANT! info about the RC-5

Oh no! I just read this. Now the only SEREs I'll have will be my Al Mar SERE Operator and the SERE folder. No matter, since I was going to get a RC-5 when it came out. Now it will be 1/4" thick with a saber grind instead of a flat grind and 3/16". I'm glad it didn't turn into another stink. I noticed that Ontario is still selling the RAT series even though they are now making Justin's Ranger knives. I had thought that the Ranger series would be their replacement for the RATs. As a long time Ontario customer, I wish they'd just go and do the right thing, like you guys did with Al Mar. I hope y'all are receiving royalties for all those RATs they're selling.

I hope this hasn't been asked and answered before but, is the RC-5 ever going to be released in the orange handle & OD blade color combo like the others?

At this time, no. Main reason for that is it's original design is to not be too flashy. With that said, I have no doubt that we will eventually bling it up with some cool handle colors.

I've been giving some thought to getting hold of a RAT knife for a while now. The RC-4 seems like it might fit the bill.

I must admit I was impressed with the integrity shown by the RAT guys in this thread which has certainly influenced my decision to make this my next knife.

I do have a question.

Anyone know a good retailer of these who will ship INTERNATIONALLY?

Thanks.

check out the dealer list here, the one's with two ** by them will ship internationally. I personally have dealt with Knives Ship Free(KSF) and Cumberland Knife Works and have had great experiences with both.

and Congrats on deciding to get your first RC knife!!!

I like the look of the RC-5. I was looking at ordering the RC-4 from some suggestions here, but I think I like the RC-5 just a bit better. Problem is that I haven't found anywhere so far that will even let you pre-order the RC-5. Do you know where/when I can order this?

Thanks!

Thaumaturgist. ridgeknifeshop.com is taking pre orders as is Derrick at knivesshipfree.com. However at knives ship free you have to do it through an email.

Does anyone know if the shipment is still scheduled for this month? I am really looking forward to finding a box from CRKS on my door step.

I think we are all hoping this is the week for these to be completed. I know I am getting real anxious.

RC5's are indeed going out to dealers. There has been a lot of email traffic about why some have them and some do not. We ship orders in the order that we receive P.O.s from our dealers. That is the only way we can do it and keep it fair. In most cases there will only be a day or two apart on receiving the RC5. A lot of dealers have already sold preorders and their first shipment is already sold before it hits their receiving dock. Those guys are already turning in more orders for RC5 or have done so already and those will also go out in the order they are received. Rowen MFG is cranking the machinery as fast as it will go:)

In the end you will be happy you stuck with your regular dealer regardless of whether it is a day later than the other guy. Doing business with folks you know and trust and are comfortable with means a lot. It doesn't matter whether it is Chestnut Ridge, Knife Center, KnifeWorks, Brigade Quatermasters or whoever. They are all good folks to deal with and honorable to do business with. Support your local or regular dealer no matter whose knives you buy. Those guys work hard to get what you want into your hands and make sure you are happy. Thank you for buying and using our knives, Mike

Thanks for the heads-up Mike! It's been nice hearing from you lately--keep up the fantastic work! We all sure appreciate it. :)

It really is refreshing to see a code of ethics like this. I just ordered a RC-4 from YourCornerStore which will make it my first RAT blade. I cant wait to get it in the mail after reading posts like this!
Also, do you offer tours of your company site in AL? I am stationed in Huntsville.

You would not want to tour that redneck's office (Jeff) in Alabama.:) Actually the shop (Rowen Mfg) is in Idaho Falls, Idaho so there really isn't anything to see here in the South. Mike

A tour in their "office" involves a trip to Peru. That's where all the R&D is done.

I see. I wasnt sure if you made the knives there and/or held classes for your survival school there too. My boss wouldn't grant me a Peru trip milage pass.
