In Case of Woods

The Snakewood that Black Mamba displayed is really striking, fine stripes.
I've heard that it's a rather unstable wood but this was only a rumour and could be wrong.

Lambertiana,

I really like the one on the far right of this picture (lambertiana photo):

I hope that finger guard area is supported or it could be easy to knock off. But it sure has beautiful wood on it.

All of the knives you posted above look great. Thanks for posting that amazing roundup of wood!!!

Hi,

OK, you guys can stop now. :) I'm getting the impression that I've been too focused on jigged bone and horn scales. And I've been neglecting some very pretty woods!!

Honestly, I have passed on some knives because of the wood scales. I need to have my head examined from the looks of these photos. The colors and figuring are quite stunning!!

My one and only woodie, A Bear MGC Stockman done in oak.

Here's a couple more.

This Boker looks a little darker now that I've carried it and there isn't nearly as much contrast in the grain.

Ed, you got too much laconico there,:D
the one on the far right is my fav:thumbup:

Actually, those belong to lambertiana, not me. But the far right one is my favorite too.

I just decided to share a photo of a knife made by Todd Davison that I had picked out as my "grail knife" and shared in that thread a while back. The scales are a buckeye burl wood, but that's really all I know about them other than they look really good. Here it is (used with permission this time):

Looks like a knife to me. Looks pretty traditional too. But doesn't look indigenous to north Louisiana (the wood or the knife). And it is a great work by the maker. Could you share who built it (the last one)?

Unlike some of the other I've posted, these are ~real~ traditional knives.

A pair of anniversary Bokers, in Grenadil wood (nearly black) and carbon steel blades.

And here are the wooden handle Bruckmann knives pulled from my small collection,

I've really enjoyed seeing everyone's wood on display. :D
