In life or death situation which Becker would you choose?

Several cops will tell you that they fear a criminal with a knife more than a gun, simply because a frenzied attack is almost impossible to walk away from unscathed. The fbi did a study a while back that proved someone with a knife can close the gap from 15 feet away and still get in 2 or 3 stabs/slashes before the officer can even draw his sidearm and get a single shot off. Coupled with statistics like most shootouts happen between 20 and 30 feet and only 1/10th of fired rounds hit their target, knives can be horrifying in confrontational situations. Watch one of those lame cold steel vids where they hack apart sides of beef and pigs, and imagine for a second that scale of damage on a person. Terrifying. Some say the general rule is, the less skill/experience = the bigger the blade should be. Like Rwanda in the 90's, countless people with AK-47's were killed by maniacs armed with only machetes.

That being said, I agree with everything posted so far, I'm not trying to start any kind of debate at all, just repeating some crap I've read. Marc (the animal) mcyoung is a reliable authority on the subject, he's been stabbed and cut probably more than any other living person.

If my shotgun was not an option, I'd go for bigger like the bk9, machax, or patrol machete simply because I have zero knife fighting skills and I could just swing it around intuitively and still do some real damage. I know that someone with any real skill could cut me up like lunch meat with a 2" pocket knife, so I'm not saying bigger is better at all.
Honestly tho, picture someone swinging a sharp bk9 around, there's no way you won't get cut, badly. Check out the Krav Maga knife "experts" they smear lipstick on rubber knives and still get cut against complete amateurs when training and they're supposedly experts.

Ok I'll shut up, sorry for the rant. Check out Marc mcyoung if anyone is interested in this kinda stuff.

Let's all hope that none of us ever face a bladed confrontation, it would really really suck.

Actually, yes, a perp can close the distance from 21 feet or less before anyone can draw from a holster. Of course, those studies were done while the attacker was moving and the "officer" was static. Incorporating movement (a simple one or two steps to the perpendicular) by the "victim/officer" at the right time adds in an extra second or two for the "victim/officer" to engage or move father away from the threat.

Contray to your shootout distance....most firearm engagements (with LE) happen within 7 to 10 feet.

Lastly, LE are trained initially to fire from a front facing static position and are taught to incorporate certain grip, drawing and aiming techniques that are not conducive to the way shootouts actually occur. Therefore, most cops will miss more than they hit becuase most shootouts are fluid and very dynamic. On the other side of that coin a lot of "untrained" perps will hit more rounds in the target because they can readily apply an instinctive shot (like pointing your finger at something) without all the grip draw and aiming getting in the way. However, there has been a huge shift in training LE by incorporating well aimed shots, while moving and under stress. So, the cops are becoming better shots.

No worries though....your point was well made.:D

Thank amigo, I did read it when it was first released to the public I think there was a lot in there about calibers too that really fueled the flames of argument on 9mm vs .40s&w vs .45acp but my memory might be lumping 2 papers together.

I wasn't able to find the hard stats while I was responding on the forum so I used other forums for reference. The facts turned into "broken telephone" haha, you know when small details get slowly changed by each person that relays it on.

I was hoping to be a little more accurate but eh that's what I get for referencing info from other forums.

Anyways, I was hoping someone would help me out here, I appreciate it brother.

You're welcome. Like I said, no worries, you had a great point :D

I generally don't like to comment on knife application threads that drift into weapon use. Maybe I'm being a bit childish on this. I tend to think most "use related topics" whether it be use of knives, use of firearms or even use of the kitchen microwave are usually subjective in nature and up for interpretation by the reader.

In a life and death situation I will use whatever means I have available to stay alive. Having said that, ANY knife has the potential to assist me in that endeavor. I usually carry my BK24 and BK16 in my pack, so that should answer the question I suppose. ;)

I absolutely agree 100%. The only time I really ever contemplate anything in the realm of bodily harm is after I read an article or story that relates to it. Like someone getting mugged at knifepoint, or a soldier in a super rare position of only having a blade to defend himself with. I just finished "house to house" a short book about David bellavia during the 2nd battle of fallujah, at one point he takes a dude out with a multitool! Further proving your point, in a life or death scenario, we're all gonna use whatever we've got, even if it's just a freakin multitool!!

I don't plan to ever stab someone. Ive always been a striker. I think I would only stab someone if I knew
they were going to kill me or my family. I enjoy punching assholes. I wouldnt want to kill someone. But Now I got
knives.:D I want to enter a building and be like the dude from The Raid. This has become a fun thread.

Those knife pics are sick!

give me any. it is not the fighting style or fighting blade but the fighter behind the fighting style/blade.
