Memorial Day, or Decoration Day, is a day to honor and mourn military personnel that gave "the last full measure of devotion" in performing their duties. I want to first thank all that are serving, or have served, or have lost loved ones in the protection of this country. Your sacrifices do not go unnoticed, and my family and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts. This Monday is to reflect and recognize those that "gave all" and we all should take a moment to appreciate them.

Without taking away from what we observe on Monday, I'd like to recognize in memoriam those porch members that have passed. I will host a give away in their names. As close knit as this digital neighborhood is, everyone should know that porch members will not be forgotten. I would like to remember a few here.

First Mr. Bob Andrews (rma100)
Old Hundred.jpg
Bob was one of the first distributors that got me going down this rabbit hole. He could ruffle some feathers here on BF, and at one point he tried to start his own forum. I think I was the only one participating, and talking to yourself got old quick, lol. He was my go to guy. When I first started, I bought examples of every run, and Bob gave me the opportunity to buy/select anything that came through his door, first or close to first. Yes, I even had first shot at waynorth waynorth SFO's. Bob was slow to order his own SFO's but he did have some made. Being a mining engineer and a coal miner myself (Bob lived in coal country) I tried to get him to name his 47 SFO the Coal Miner Goin To Church Knife. He decided to refer to them as "...workin' mans church knife." When Bob passed I lost a friend and a distributor that had my collecting interest at heart. I've never been into "the lolly scramble" since. I miss him.

There are many porch members in this photo, but Bob is sitting at the back table in sunglasses, facing the camera.

Next I'd like to remember is Bob (BigBiscuit)

Bob was a dedicated porch member with over 4,500 posts in the 3 years that he sat on these steps. When I opened the forum, he was always front and center. He was known for getting his hands on a brand spankin' new release and go straight to his garage and customize it to his liking. Regrinding blades to fit his need. Modifying spey blades to coping blades. He like me did not see the functional use of a knife with two curved blades. He always wanted a straight blade paired with a blade with belly.

Last buy certainly not least I remember Mister Ron (Half/Stop)
HalfStop.jpg
All I can say is that my sons and I are better people to have known and enjoyed this man. We hit it off at the last rendezvous and he and my youngest bonded pretty quick. Without getting sappy, they enjoyed each other and exchanged knives and gifts over the last couple of years until his passing. Here are some great threads that you can read through to see how much he enjoyed attending the rendezvous.

I'm not sure what he was there for the most, the kids, his porch friends or the knives. I really do not think it was the latter.

Here are some special knives from a few special porch members:

The Give Away:
You must help the porch remember our friends. Those that may be gone, but not forgotten. Pictures, stories, shared memories of these gentlemen and others that have passed that you miss. They must be knife buddies, porch members, etc. If you can recall a porch member, share a story or picture, then you must be a member of this porch and you quality for the give away.

The randomly drawn winner will have their choice from these 4 knives. There is even a modified 54 that if BigBiscuit himself did not create, it would have been at home in his pocket. The spear blade has been converted to a sheepfoot.

Let the memories begin.

Take care,
Josh

Not an entry as I do not have a lot of memories with any of those fine gentlemen, but I did want to memorialize Bob (Big Biscuit). Bob's smiling avatar was one of the first porch denizen names I learned to recognize when I started coming around here. His posts were always a high point for me, and his passing was when I realized that I had really become attached to this virtual place. He is certainly missed.

Great memory and that is the type of story that works for me. Members don't need to specifically remember Bob, Bob or Ron. It can be any porch member or knife friend that has passed.

I like these kinds of giveaways - the prize is secondary to the stories and sentiments that get shared.

I think Bob Andrews may have passed on before I started to frequent these forums - I do not have any recollection of him. However, I do have fond memories of both Bob (BigBiscuit) and Ron (Half Stop).

I am not free with my grief and emotions usually but I took Ron's unexpected passing pretty hard - he was a friend and one of my favorite Porch contributors. He always had nothing but kindness to show for the folks here, whether they were new or well established, and his enthusiasm for knives was infectious - still is, if one happens to venture across some of his past posts.

My first GEC was a gift but the first GEC I purchased for myself was when I was still navigating those murky waters. Bob assisted me in landing one, reaching out to let me know where stock was available and introducing me to some of the preferred dealers. He was always helpful and his passing was most certainly felt - I very much miss seeing his notable avatar.

There are other members that I haven't seen in quite some time, regular posters and friends alike, I surely hope they are well.

Nice idea for a GA, Josh!! You've brought back memories to me, of many of those people who have moved on in one way or another!! Fondly remembered!!
Can we nominate someone? - If so, give Harry (Old Engineer) a knife in my name!! ;)
If I'm chosen of course!!

Very thoughtful and well done, Josh. Bob, Bob and Ron are missed.

I read this thread with a BigBiscuit mod in my pocket. It was once sunbrite acrylic (153213). A piece of paper in the tube for a few years now says, “Do not sell”, like I’d ever need reminding.

I’m also that type of person with a spreadsheet for everything, and I kept Bob’s notes from the exchange thread so I’d remember details of the knife, from on or around 6/29/17.

Custom modded Beer Scout. This beauty was modded with Natural Canvas Micarta covers, stainless liners and a larger lanyard tube to accept a fob instead of a bail. Of course a bail still could be used (not included). This is new. Any slight discoloration on the blades was due to handling during the mod process. I have the original tube…

Not an entry, but I loved reading the OP's post. Such a great idea for a giveaway. Thanks for posting pictures of Bob, Bob, and Ron so those of us who knew them only through their posts can see what they looked like in real life.

There are some awesome people on this porch, indeed! :)

I would like to remember the recent passing of Onearmbladenut Onearmbladenut . He only had one arm but he would explain in great & hilarious detail about the lengths he would go to get his knives open. I would be on the couch cracking up reading his posts. The guy was so enthusiastic about knives, and specifically GEC's. He really would get me all juiced up for the new releases too. I sure do miss that hilarious enthusiasm. May he rest in peace.

Very awesome memory. When I carry my molded 48, all I see is BigBiscuit's avatar. Do you recall when he modded my 48? See OP for pictures.

No hijack intended, but I didn't know OABN had passed... I really enjoyed reading his posts, and the few PM's we shared.... I'm surprised, and saddened to hear this.....

I have very fond memories of Ron Half/Stop Half/Stop

He was always so friendly and quick to comment on everybody's knives. I felt his loss on the forum even before he passed, when his posting had slowed down. I remember selling him a knife he really wanted, a very desirable knife. I am happy that I sold it to him for a very cheap price, I couldn't make money from a friend... a Viper in Orange Osage. He shared my love of Osage and we'd compare them often. We also shared a love of Lambsfoot knives. Even though I'd never had the pleasure to meet him, I always counted him among my forum friends.

After his passing, Harry Old Engineer Old Engineer sent me a knife he had received from Ron. I treasure that knife now, and I know Harry knew I would. If I should be lucky enough to win this, I would also like the choice to go to Harry, I think it would mean a lot to him as he and Ron were very close.

My knife that used to belong to Ron, gifted to me by Harry...

When I first started reading the Blade Forums , Bob ( Big Biscuit )'s avatar kind of made me chuckle every time I saw it . He was one the members who made me feel like I was welcome here . When my wife and I went to the 2017 Rendezvous , we met Half/Stop Half/Stop Ron and his wife Pam , and a lot of other very nice people as well , but we kind of felt very comfortable with Ron & Pam . We became pretty good friends after that . He was collecting knives with the money from his paper route , so he was a knife collector longer than anyone that I know of . He was a God Fearing guy when I knew him and he walked the talk . He also had a good sense humor and was only too glad to give good directions at the Rendezvous and tell people where to go . We were lucky to have spent some time with Ron in Tennessee in September last year .

It's a sad but good thing to remember those that have moved on. I remember Bob Andrews, we shared some chats back and forth and we did meet up at one of the GEC rendevous. He saw the knife I picked up, a nice ivory scaled folder, he looked at it...looked at me and said 'you going to really use that??' to which I replied Yeppers ! and his eyes opened wide like wow, this guy is crazy, but, I am not a collector, though don't ask my wife as she probably has a different take on that.

The knife has long since gone on to a new home, I hope it is living a great life, but I'll never forget Bob's response about it as he saw me drop it into my pocket and smile ;)

Another that has passed on, Tony Bose, very sad, I got to visit him at his home and shop while out on a trip for my company, I called and he said sure, drop on down. Had some sweet tea and a conversation. He will be dearly missed.

Nice give away sir, very kind of you to do so!
