I was gone a few days and just found out, can't remember the last time i wanted to cry.

A large hole has been left behind. May we have his picture posted at the tops of these pages?
On a different note... i bet he trades his harp for a Spydie =)

God bless James and may the wind always fill your sails.

Even if I am a newby here, from the little I have read from him it was obvious that he was a extraordinary person. My condolences to family and friends.

I too have been away and just found out about this tragedy. Words simply can not express my shock and dismay over this development. Our community will be much the poorer for this loss.

My prayers are with his family.

I've been away for months. And now I get hit with this. Royal heartache, as James was a King among men. And an honorable gentleman. I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but his personality and demeanor were reflected in his posts. He was the kind of guy you could love without ever having met him. He will be greatly missed. The wound will, eventually, heal; but scars last for a lifetime. He was one of the more memorable people on this forum.

James was a true Champion. Now he is enjoying his reward.

James, God bless you, sir. I know that He is even as we write.

Our prayers are with Toni and the family.

The greatest compliment we can pay to James is that we're all the better for having known him in some way.

All that can be said has been said, and much more eloquently than I could hope to. I never met him, but his knowledge and more, his Integrity, clearly showed through. My prayers are with his family.

Though I haven't had the opportunity to meet him, I realize the great loss.
We will miss him.

My heart just sank just a few minutes ago. I have never met James, but we have talked several times with each conversation being a joy. I spoke with James early in the afternoon on the 13th regarding a new order. James felt bad my order would not get out yet that day since his "day job" needed his focus the next couple of days. I always joked with him that he was much too nice of a guy for that profession. What made James meaningful to me is that he took the time and made an effort everytime I called to connect and communicate in areas beyond doing business with me as a customer. In this fast pace world, maybe I can be a better person if I try to learn from James.

James, my prayers are with you and your family,

This is very sad. I had the opportunity to meet James at the Shot Show this year.I could not have met a better person there. This a huge loss to his family, friends and fellow forum members.

I just read the news and I am shocked and saddened by it. Jim, was one of the pillars at Bladeforums--he has been around since day one-- his presence here on the forums, knowledge and wit will surely be missed. Only recent, we all sat chatting away in chat. It is hard to believe he passed away.

The Internet can be a cold, cruel place where people hide behind their computers because that is just the way it is. They can be all the bad things they ARE, because they don't have to brave the harshness and uncomfort of face-to-face confrontations.
But I can't help but feel the warmth, the outpouring of sorrow and love and goodness that is here in this thread.
We all got to know James Mattis here in the forums, and those of you who were fortunate to have met him in person know that he was every bit the same person as reflected in his writing. I only met him a few times at a few shows, but each time, within 30 seconds I could tell that this man standing before me was one and the same as the voice of reason, wit, wisdom, and warmth that we will all miss here in Cyberspace.
My sincere condolences to the family; may God comfort you in your time of sorrow. James will be missed.

My condolencs to the Mattis family. I didnt know James, but we all have lost a real Gentleman.

I had the honor to meet Jim at Blade Show West. I heard a lot about him before. I went to his booth. He introduced himself, "Hi I'm James Mattis!" I said,"Wow, I've heard so much about you!" He was very nice, he had a stag Talon that I was interested in and I wrote him a e-mail to ask if he still had it available, he wrote back saying yes. He donated a portion of every sale to charity. He was truly a gentleman and his passing is a great loss to the knife world. My condolenses to his family.

Like many of you, I last saw James at Blade Show West, a week ago, full of life, wit, and generosity. What a good gentleman. I am grateful to have seen and chatted with him, and so sorry he has gone. He was wise, tolerant and kind. May he be happy now wherever he is! Liz Ashmead
