In Memory

Smoke and prayers out from Wyoming Yangdu. Uncle Bill and Rusty were both very special people and their work lives on here.

I can SO relate, Yangdu. I lost my Father Mar 22, 2005.
M/Gen Garth B Dettinger, MD, USAAF, US Army, USAF Ret., FRCS, FACS, Eagle Scout.
Rest in Peace, Dad
We miss you dearly!

I came to the Forum a few months after Bill's passing. His legacy is strong, even for those of us whom did not know him.
The hard work of a loving woman, in his memory, must not go unnoticed.

Uncle Bill's house still stands. The kukuries are better than ever and Himalayan Imports continues to grow, employing new kamis and attracting new customers.

Congratulations, Yangdu, for your helmsmanship and for keeping Bill's vision alive. The tenets on which H.I. was founded are going strong: an honest handmade product at an honest price- and private enterprise whose profit is helping others.

Incense lit tonight in Bill and Rusty's memory.

Smoke sent for Uncle Bill and Rusty. My dad knew uncle Bill and was a test pilot with him many years ago, I wish I could have known Bill, in a way I feel him at times when I visit this forum.
Yangdu, you have done an excellent job carrying on all of the traditions of H.I. and in a month or so, the Morel mushrooms will be fresh and a package will come to you with several surprises.

This is a special place, full of special people.
Uncle Bill created it, Rusty helped increase it and Aunt Yangdu continues it.
We will always remember it, and them. :)

Thank you to Uncle Bill and Rusty.
and to all who continue in their memory.

I often wish I had started buying HI when Bill was still around, back in the day of the old xeroxed catalogs and hand-written letters, but I was younger, with less money at my disposal for HIKV.

But, at times like this, I recall a certain proverb, albeit not too accurately:

"Grieve not that he is gone
Instead, rejoice that he was"

I remeber my shock on my first day in Nepal recieving emails from a couple of forumites passing on the news.

Bill was special, very special.

Wish I had met him.

Take care Yangdu, the wheel keeps turning for us all.

What Machete said.....
I had the pleasure of communicating with Uncle Bill...I won't forget.

I had the honor of knowing Uncle Bill through this forum and my dealings with him through e-mails. Wish I could have met him in person. An honorable man with an outstanding outlook on life. I will never forget him, nor will I forget the lessons he taught in his writings, intentional or not. I was in training on my way to Iraq when I heard the sad news. My calendar will always have time this day set aside to light a taper and send smoke up in his honor.

Save me a seat at the table, Bill. I'll buy you a Heineken when I get there, but don't expect me soon.

Bill Sanders

I've only been here a few days and can tell the legacy that Uncle Bill created is strong. Our sympathies are with you Yangdu.

Smoke up from the heartland for Bill and Rusty.

They're missed, Uncle Bill and Rusty.

I remember many conversations with both of them. And Uncle Bill's encouragement was part of what got me to India - where I met my wife.

You know, nothing memorializes Bill and Rusty more than to heft your HI product, marvel at how well it is made and what your purchase of it means to a long train of people. I do believe Uncle would be proud of how things are today with HI and all of us and the growing legion of folks that love and use HI products daily.

May the goddess bless you Yangdu and all of you who support her and HI.

Uncle Bill and Rusty will always live on in my heart and memory. Two great guys that made this forum special. Yandu, you have done a geat job of keeping this forum the type of place I still love to come and spend time at.
