In Memory

I never spoke with Rusty or Uncle Bill, but I remember when I first started here, I had a nice email correspondence with UB about khuks and my first khuk, a WWII is my favorite one because he picked it out for me. I missed out on a DOD and he emailed me and said that he had one that was really nice and that I would like and he would send it out and if I didn't like it I could return it no problem. Boy was he right.

Thank you to Yangdu for continuing as she had before with Uncle Bill and making HI, the Forum and the Cantina the best places not only for great khuks and knives (and swords) but also for making this a community.

I too never knew Uncle Bill, but from what I've gathered, he was a great guy and you're doing a wonderful job keeping his memory alive, Yangdu.

Thank you all for your good thoughts and prayers

I wish I could have met Bill, & Rusty too. Yangdu, thanks for keeping his memory & the business alive -

Thanks to Bill (and you of course) I don't think I'll EVER have enough kukris . . . :o

thx - cpr

I missed posting in this thread on the 28th, but I sent some good thoughts to Bill and Rusty this past weekend. Some words of wisdom:

"That's the way most people did business when I was a kid. I just never grew up."

"We're all brothers and sisters that walk on this planet no matter our race, creed, religion, ignorance, or what.
That's the way we should live our lives and the way we should behave on this forum...."

"Many thanks for report from the field."

"Good for a hundred years."

"Debt is good."

Good stuff, and thanks to you both.

new screen name, but i'm a long time member...

i have had the pleasure of doing business with uncle bill over the phone...

he sent my blade before i even sent my payment...that kind of trust is hard to find...

uncle bill must have been an optomist at heart...he saw the good in a stranger before assuming the worst...people like uncle bill are hard to find these days...

he was a good man...

Time was I never would have missed this thread, or this anniversary. I'm sorry I did. Just too self-absorbed right now and too much to deal with, but this one's important. Uncle Bill and this forum had a major impact on my life and way of looking at things, and I know many other folks feel the same.

Blessings to Uncle Bill, Yangdu and HI.

BTW, this anniversary marks the date I changed my avatar in 2005; for you newcomers, I attach a pic of my old one here. Seemed like the right thing to do at the time.

Probably isn't a day goes by I don't think of you, UB & Rusty. I remember my first conversation with UB in November of 1988 or 1989........can't remember which. He remains one of the finest people I have ever had the privelege of knowing. His fine advice, & great sense of humor have helped me cope with some tough times in the last nearly 4 years. I only got to talk to Rusty a few times, but I remember those as really good times. UB told me not to listen to him (UB) or I'd be up to my butt in khukuris. I am & wouldn't trade or sell those blades for anything. Seems that everyone of them has a story & carries the soul of the kami & the spirit of UB. Thank you for keeping H.I. going. To mark March 28th, I popped the cap on a home-made brew or two in fond remembrance of UB & Rusty. What a pair! Thank you.
