Recommendation? In need of recommendations

yes, it is true the GEC lb's get the blade play. i have had a 42 and 72 for a while now, and they are getting a bit "loose". i didn't catch the SS requirement. that obviously rules out the GEC's. Good luck!

Not necessarily a “requirement,” just a preference if I had the choice. I own and use carbon blades regularly, I just like stainless for the ability to clean up so nicely after some rough use. It is sad about the blade play factor, I think my 72 would be nearly perfect if that wasn’t a factor in all the GEC LB’s (I’d probably also try a 42 if that was the case... and I still might just for fun).

You know Collector Knives will be releasing the Clip point version of the Roundhead on Jan. 31st. You might take a look at it.
Thanks, Neal
PS-check my post in the other “need help” just below this one-may be of interest, actually the whole thread might.

Been following that one as well. I’d like to have something a little bigger also, and that thread really got me thinking. I definitely still have a primary “need” for my specified size, but that #3 Mountain Man LB in that other thread is just purty. Wouldn’t mind owning one of those

You’re Gold-the price is right on that one, I doubt one would find one in that great of a condition again.
Thanks, Neal

I could swear that I saw a smaller version of the Queen Mountain Man earlier last year on Queen's website. It had a different name and I can't seem to find it anywhere now.

It’s called the “Woodsman” #4L, iirc. A number of releases with 1095 and a variety of covers. A bit smaller than the #3, but I don’t recall specifics, sorry.
Thanks, Neal

BP, BP_ BP_ , thought I'd follow up. Did you take the plunge on anything? The Moki is looking to be next up for me.

Haven’t found one yet. I’ve picked up a few to try, but nothing that hit the sweet spot for my criteria. I also picked up a Crooked River, and will be ordering the mini CR while I continue my search. I’ve also started considering just going custom, but that would cost more shiny coins than I think I want to spend just yet.

Picked up a Böker to try out. Seems to fit “most” of the criteria, but I’m not sure about F&F, or quality of heat treat (440C). Made in China, and very inexpensive. Worth the try, though.

I also picked up a Mini Crooked River, which should arrive on Tuesday. Not exactly a “traditional” knife, but in my eyes it is the perfect mash up of “modern traditional” and I am excited to try it out. The full size is a bit much for EDC, but still a handsome knife.

I looked up the Crooked River, nice looking knife and can't beat that steel. I'm not familiar with the locking mechanism... I'll be interested to hear how solid it holds.

I have a Soligen Boker stag lockback Hunter. A beefy knife, solid in hand, but you'd not call it a pocket knife.

I’m curious about the lock myself. I have heard good things, and I like the style of the knife. I don’t carry modern knives for the most part, only a few in my collection at this point, but I enjoy the feel of this one. Still can’t beat a solid Lockback in my opinion, we’ll see.

I looked for a Soligen Böker, but could not find one in a style I felt would be best for me personally. I figured for the price, if I really don’t like it I will gift it to someone.

I moved away from moderns, but AXIS locks are fantastic, imo. I really like the look of the Crooked River, but even the "Mini" is far too large for me.
