In praise of the Endura.

I got my first Endura in 1993 and my most recent yesterday. The one that arrived yesterday was ZDP; I've never seen a knife that sharp, ever.

Whenever I wear jeans, an Endura is in my pocket, otherwise a Delica.

Good thread, thanks!

Thanx for the post Ken, and to all of you for the kind words. We like the feedback good and bad.

Hi Dallas, Teb,

Welcome to the Spyderco forum. Thanx fer visitin'.

I received my Foliage Green E4 CE and D4 CE. Here are some pics with my SS versions. They are all set up for lefthand tip down carry. Black versions are next. :)

nice. would you bring those to the next meet? i've been putting the foliage green delica in and out of my basket all week.

I have carried an Endura of one kind or another almost every day since 1992 when I bought my first one. They are still my favorite to use and collect. Here is a bad picture of a few of my Enduras.

Edit-I've gotten a few more since this picture, I can't get enough of them.

I picked up an Endura4 PE last year, an excellent one hand opening knife, been carrying it on my non work days. For work I use a BM551 another excellent knife. Recently I picked up an Endura4 ZDP-189, thinking about having the blade flat ground. I would recommend the Endura4 to anyone who doesn't have one or thinking about getting one. Gary

looks like you need to add a few fully serrated enduras to your collection.

you need to get the waved Enduras too. ditto on the fully serrated Endura.

Until the P'Kal arrives--hopefully soon--the Waved Endura4 is, IMHO, the best factory-produced folder for self-defense.

The number of variations of the Endura, and its little brother, the Delica, is testament to its popularity. Considering price, quality, and customer service, the Endura gets my vote as the 21st century equivalent of the Buck 110.

Although many knife knuts start off with Spydercos as one of their first quality pieces, they often "graduate" to higher end stuff, and then further into the custom world.

Pretty cool that those folks can come back and still appreciate a Spyderco. :)

Add me to the list of Endura lovers. My first "expensive" knife was a Benchmade and I have several knives that cost a lot of money. With all the knives I can choose from daily, I carry an Endura very often. I take care of it but know that if something happens to it, it is replaceable. I have learned through use what I like, and sometimes the most expensive is not always the best, and likewise sometimes inexpensive doesn't mean it's not good. I originally thought the FRN handle was flimsy, but with a lot of use I have seen no issues. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to operate the lockback with one hand, but with practice it becomes natural. It's flat, lightweight, sturdy, and the perfect size for me.

Enduras are excellent! They perform way beyond their price point. I got a ZDP Endura today. Where else can we get high performance at such a great value. I got an Endura 4 when they first came out to use as a duty knife while I'm on patrol. I trust this knife. Just when you think they can't be improved upon Sal and company find a way to make them better. This ZDP one has excellent fit and finish and is uber sharp. I think I'll use her as a duty knife now and give my VG-10 model to a co worker.

I've got a couple but I prefer PE. I have a few 50/50 though. I have two waved as well but they must not have made it in the picture. I guess I need to take a new picture. I can think of at least 6 that aren't in it.

Hah I knew I had one with my Wave in it and I found it.

I've carried Enduras on and off for over a decade. I currently own 4- my waved version just came in from New Graham this morning and I'm super psyched about it. I switch my EDC knives around pretty regularly, but Enduras still find their way into the mix. I sleep with a folder clipped into the pocket of my PJ's and it's almost always a FRN Endura of some sort. (to her credit, my wife isn't bothered by this particular eccentricity).

I think the waved version will be my favorite. I haven't had it long enough to say with certainty, but IMO, the waved Endura 4 may be the best main-line production folder ever made. It is a highly evolved design with excellent ergos, design, materials and construction. As for the wave, I think Spyderco is actually doing a better job with the concept than Emerson is. My CQC-8 doesn't wave open nearly as reliably as my Endura does. And the clip on the Endura 4 is by far the best I've ever used- in terms of getting the job done, and staying out of the way when the knife is in hand. It is a work of art.

Looking at this model closely now. Anyone else want to add any love for the Endura 4 FFG?

It started for me with a visit to the NYC Knife Show in the early 1990s. I bought a Sharpmaker and an early Spdyeredge folder from, I think, Sal himself. I remember the knife as being somewhere between a Delica and an Endura in size. It was pretty hefty since it was made entirely from stainless steel. That was my work knife for many years, until I lost it on the job somewhere. Since then I've had a few CRKs, Benchmades, and even a Terzuola folder, but they've all been sold and now I've paired down to just my favorite few Spydercos. The Endura 4 is what I carry when I want more than 3" of blade.

I have to move my own parts around, but I like the Titanium and G-10 Enduras with ZDP-189 FFG blades.

When I did a quick search of the forum I did not find any really recent threads that were Endura specific. The really recent threads were in the For Sale section.

I imagine the recent Spydie commentary threads got rolled into ZOME threads, FFG threads and Delica conversations. The Delica is the little brother but with the bigger following. I guess the Delica does hit a sweet spot. I have a new Para3 and a G10 Native 5 so they cover off my 3 inch blades and a Dragonfly for something more compact. Wanting to go for a larger blade I started looking at the Endura. The Delica kills the Endura on the shear number of Youtubes and reviews available online. What I do read and watch about the Endura is good so I have no concerns there. I was just wondering how it fairs in recent on our own forum.

One thing I did notice is the weight on The Zome Endura gets listed as less than on the regular. 3.3 for Zome, 3.4 for regular. I saw that in a number of places including the Spyderco catalog.

Thanks for the input fellas!
