In your opinion what is the best EDC folder for under $100?

I only own one knife in this category so I can't say a whole lot. Dragonfly2 ZDP-189

I just got the Elmax Blur in this week. I have to say, it took a little break in but I'm thoroughly impressed with it. I would four way tie this with a Delica, griptilian/mini grip series and Opinel no. 9 for a do it all knife if you had only one folder under $100.

Is Blur the knife model, Kershaw the manufacturer, and Elmax is the blade steel?

for well under 100, im gonna suggest the Avispa. I already own a couple Zancudos, and im happy with them, but I really like the larger blade/bigger handle the Avispa has. slim, decent enough steel, and all the ones ive handled/own are well made. just my .02

How similar or different is the Avisapa by Esee as compared to the Ontario Rat 1? They look similar in shape and have the Randall Adventure Training logo on them.

materials are pretty much the same, as is the maker, but the Rat is a liner lock, while the Avispa is a frame lock. both are great knives, but the reason I prefer the Avispa is the blade shape....reminds me of the Laser Strike, a fixed blade im rather fond of.

I went to their website and cannot find the Avispa. Where is it? I saw it on Amazon, but there is only one picture of the handle side. http://eseeknives.com/

Equally important to blade steel is the strength and build of the lock. Cold Steel Recon 1 or Benchmade Grip 551.

a careful shopper could get a Para 2 for a little over $100. That's always a contender.

Yes, $100 is not a good price point even though it is a nice round number. Someone suggested the Manix 2 but I thought they were a little over $100 just like the PM2 is, even though you can sometimes find a used Manix 2 for a good amount less. Then when you go below $100 you can go a lot below and still find a pretty good knife.

For me, I have to have one hand operation, and at least G10, so the Tenacious is a contender and it is a lot less than $100. I have a Blur and it is a good knife too, also a lot less than $100. Another one I would like to check out is the Kershaw Cryo 2.

Lots of people like the Spyderco Endura, Delica, Native and Stretch. They are good knives if you can accept FRN and lockback operation.

If you like a longer blade, I'd suggest the Endura.

If you prefer a shorter blade with choil try the Manix2.

Endura or Stretch in Super blue steel. If you don't mind a little extra maintenance the steel is like a high priced custom steel wise in O-1 or W2, maybe 52100. For someone that enjoys sharp edges and very useful knives . For slightly over $100 the S110V manix at RC 63. Modern powder steel at it's best. A steel that wouldn't exist in it's current form without powder steel. The S35Vn Native is nothing to sneeze at and will last a long time giving excellent performance with very little maintenance.

There are plenty more but this is a small sample of some Spyderco performance models.

I own the Kershaw Cryo 2 in gray $32 and in blackwash $36 delivered. What makes them interesting is their simplicity. All metal, frame lock, spring assist, flipper...I like the looks of the gray one better since it looks like titanium, but isn't.

There is no best EDC folder. Not at any price. There is only the perfectly imperfect journey of searching for the one that fits your needs best. With best being defined as a snapshot in time.

My SAK alox classic lives on my keychain and so gets the most consistent carry time.

Over the years I've had a ton and rotate several. These days I am partial to a laguiole, a Schrade liner lock (294OT), the Kabar Warthog, and an AG Russell sowbelly trapper. A couple of these can be had for less that $25 and I don't feel deprived carrying any of them.

The frame lock designs, while they seem to be quality, just don't do it for me. And mostly I don't really need a locking knife.

EDC - go with a spyderco my fav is the stretch in zdp-189 its around 100 maybe 120, Endura is around 60-75 and stretch in vg-10 is under 100! Or a light weight manix in bd-1 steel, or manix 2 regular 80 on ebay.

tactical blade EDC - cold steel recon 1 - not the greatest steel but its a hardcore knife and big blade for the money if that is what you like and its only like 70, or their other Aus8a knives, code 4, voyager, ak-47, lawman, etc.

Buck spit fire is around 30 - its only 420HC but is a really nice looking knife i've been using it lately, it takes a decent edge, and is a fun knife to use - just have to touch it up every few weeks, or less. they also have a vantage force pro in s30v, w/ a great HT under 100. and the elmax as another guy said.

all these have been mentioned but: here are a few that are also cool - boker manero stingray in 440c its newer just reviewed by nuntnfancy, 105 w/ shipping on ebay new! SOG zoom, i really like the new kershaw ZT ken onion collab knife the 0350 its like 105 and the new 0350ts with tiger stripe is only a few bucks more, i seen one on ebay for 110 w/ shipping. the Victorinox hunter pro is only 50, but its not too great of steel, just HC stainless, but if you like swiss army knives it might be for you. Al mar eagle is nice for EDC but its nuntnfancy -
Buck Haley Heath Ergo Hunter Adrenaline Series Pro (S30V) 588GRSHH or the buck tops csar-t in 154cm.

These are just a few that come to mind i've played with or been looking at: they would all do the job, and some you can buy 2 or 3. have fun and enjoy!! peace Mike
