Inclusive the hard way

We started a pretty good fire with this one. If you were near, I'd say let's grab a beer and watch everyone duke it out.
I put my gloves down a while ago.

Have you noticed the resurgence of large fixed blade recommendation threads? lol
You think we scared people off folders?

I've spent a lot of time in Louisiana, but no plans anytime soon. Otherwise, I'd buy you an Abita.

At this point I would gladly buy either of you a beer if I was anywhere near you two.

I sense the endurance is strong with this one..

No kidding. Never seen anything like this. I haven't been around here a long time, but this si deifitely the weirdest thread I've seen so far.

My vote definitely goes for this to be given an award of some kind.

You guys are all wrong! "Inclusive" includes all the angles, including those on the spine of the blade, so that they total 180 degrees if it's a full flat zero-grind, and more if there's a microbevel or a different main grind. I thought everyone knew this!

No. You mixed something up there.
What you are describing is the "all inclusive angle"

I think many of the posters are simply enjoying having a little back and forth that isn't about brands or anything else that hurts feelings.

In other words, it's fun. Like everything on a knife forum should be.

Though I'm sure there are some real "life or death" importance threads out there we should be participating in. Right? :D

So agree. I try to talk about this w other people, they don't care. Math teachers looked at me like I was crazy. As much as I disagree w Dave m I have had a great time arguing over this and appreciate his presence on blade forums.

Everyone who has posted in this thread has one thing in common: We were all interested enough to comment!

An 8 page thread consisting of people bickering about what "Inclusive" really means. Get over yourselves for once. Please? With a cherry on top?

You have a mouse that responds to you. You can avoid clicking on threads where people "bicker"

"When I state my opinion, it's a fact. When others state their opinions, they are bickering". :D:p

Hey, its are hobby and we can bicker if we want too!! Its better than most TV shows for sure lol

No, the "all inclusive angle" includes the angle of the thumb studs and/or opening hole too. Get it right.
I guess it shows that I wasn't in university that day when we covered that.
:D

Now that we covered what an inclusive angle is, how does one define the
"elusive angle"
of hidden tangs?

Ok, I've got a question that came to mind early in this thread. But when I saw the thread spinning out of control, I failed to ask. Anyway....

Say a knife maker has a model knife that they want to offer in both chisel and V grinds. They do the V at 20/20 deg. Is it safe to say they would probably do the chisel at 40 deg? Or would it be at 20? I think I may have one chisel grind in over 200 knives. So just curious.

That was the point of my original post. A 20/20 V grind edge is the same as a 40 chisel, and both are the same as a 10/30 asymmetric.

If you are allowed to use the term "inclusive" for all of grinds, you can refer to the 40 degrees inclusive that all three share.

If the standard model is 20\/20, or 15\/15 and they want to bring out a chisel version the reason would be to bring better or different cutting performance, right? But they don't want to make a "weaker" knife. I guess they might go for a 0\/30 or 30\/0 for the left hand model. It would suck at cutting thick things where you want a straight cut down, but hey.. style, right? That boss needs a chisel.

You really need more Japanese kitchen knives in your life! :) Primary grind coming in like a scandi at like 0\/9 or less degrees and then a "secondary" at 0\/13
