Increasingly unlikely "what ifs"

We've already run through many of the more likely knife-related scenarios, so I'm going to venture out a little further.

Try to imagine, if you will, a world in which Chris Reeve Knives has suddenly ceased to exist. Some sort of magical knife apocalypse has transported them, and all their products, to a Never Never Land that none of us have access to, and now everybody who wants something similar has to find an alternative.

Crying in a corner is an option, but you don't have to admit it. In the meantime though, is there a knife or knives that will suffice? Or is there no other way, except to sacrifice a Tormach, opening a portal to rescue them?

I love CRK's(they are a good all around design), but there are plenty of other knives out there that could fill my needs and wants. For almost 40 years of my life CRK didn't exist and another 16 I didn't know they existed. I seemed to get along just fine.

Imagine the pirates' reaction if an entire modern production facility suddenly appears, just East of Pirate Cove.

I can see the title of the Huffington Post article:

"The Machinist & The Pirate, this year's most bizarre Internet fanfic."

There is always an alternative.
When the 'Survive' star waned on this forum, many fanboys gravitated towards CPK (which BTW are the dogs danglies).
Whether or not they had a good cry first, I dont know.
We knife aficionados are unfortunately often hooked and even though we THINK, we have finally bought the-knife-to-end-all-further-knife-purchases, it often isnt so.
Sigh! I know this from first hand experience.

Assuming Bradley Alias got inspiration before CRKs vanished and the Bradley Alias was a thing;

I guess it would have sold alot better.

Also is it ok to buy a Kevin John clone of a CRK if all CRKs have been vapourized?

Gayle Bradley 2 would suffice.

Nice comparison shot. Not mine

I like CRK (in fact, it's one of my top 3 user brands, along with Victorinox and Spyderco). But if they somehow vaporized and ceased to exist, life goes on. And there are TONS of other good and great knives out there.

Heck, I did alright for 10 years with just one basic Victorinox SAK, a Spartan. TBH, I'd have a much bigger problem if Victorinox ceased to exist.

Is there any other knife with a pivot bushing? So even someone like me can take it down (with one tool), and put it back together properly, every time, no loctite, no fiddling with pivot tension?

CRKs having never existed would be an interesting hypothetical question. Ti framelocks might never have become so prevalent, S30V and S35VN might not have existed... The knife industry would likely be notably different.

CRKs just ceasing to exist right now, though... I mean, not that big of a loss. Obviously, this would be a super bummer for CRK collectors and fans... But it's not like the world is devoid of numerous Ti Framelocks with good quality control and particle-metallurgy blade steels these days.

Don't own a CRK yet, considered them a few times but if they ceased to exist I would simply won't own one period. Not a huge loss to me personally. I would imagine the guys whose CRK collections vaporize would feel the sting a lot more :D

Spyderco PM2 has a pivot bushing. I believe Microtech Socoms have or had a bushing at one point. There are actually several knives with this feature.

However on a pm2 an overtightened stop pin screw can mess with the action. However these screws back out far less than pivot screws.

If I didn't see the news of the disappearance here on BF I wouldn't know it happened. I don't own one and don't intend to; they just don't appeal to me as I question the quality/cost ratio. I am fairly certain I am in the minority. ;)

I would do as I do now, nothing would change. I don’t own any CRK .
Exactly this for me. Sorry to be a spoil-sport. I've never spent more than about $150 on a folder, always had good quality, and never had a good folder fail in any way.

Edited out one more remark i'd made due to my error.

If a CRK should last a lifetime with normal use , I have 7 lifetimes to use up
Should be OK
I was worried for a minute though
