I really like those two folders. Not being a Strider aficianado, they were not in my ballpark price wise, but they are nice nonetheless.

In the end, it's all about what person believes is worth it. This goes everywhere from $10 "made in China" knives to $10,000 Lovelesses

That's true. The people that purchase these knives probably wouldn't think the knives I purchase are worth what I pay for them. Everybody to their own.

One last stab at getting some info:

HEY NEIL - WHAT THE HELL IS "SAN MEI" DAMASCUS?

Arthur - I appreciate your informed deductions.

Roger

PS - Rumors of my departure from this thread seem to have been exaggerated. :p

the longer this goes ignored the more it feels like deliberate trickery.:thumbdn:

ok maybe your not a troll. but why don't you post this Strider knife thread on other forums where you know Strider is liked? Why do you post it here where you know it will start shit? Sure seems like an agenda to me.:jerkit:

Doug, you used to trip over yourself to get at Striders customs..got in A LOT of trouble on other forums over similar stuff too

Are you taking your meds? YOU OF ALL PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE CALLING ANYONE A TROLL, SIR!

PS- it is "You're" a shortened version of "you are"

I did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express but think that is an interesting piece.

Ronald P LaBella's disclaimer: I do NOT know Mick Strider and do not get paid to moderate anywhere ( before that gets called back into play)

I just think it is a nice looking blade, not a user at all ( I do not like damascus for my users)

I love you all, each and every one of you special people Good night! *waves to Doug Kimball*

Hi Ron, yep on meds, lol Would you like to know what and the dosages? I know the difference in your and you're I'm just a lazy typer I guess. I still have a few really nice custom Strider knives. Trouble on other forums? whatever do you mean? lol, that was some time ago Ron.

Ron call me sometime.

That Hancock is an incredibly well designed, flawlessly executed, breathtakingly beautiful knife.

Quite possibly my all-time favorite fixed blade...

It is the case with many knives that are going to be safe queens, that they are not heat treated, or not sharpened, or have elements that will produce stress risers purposely introduced, or any combination of the above. I personally would never be interested in a knife that was made in those ways, but there are lots of folks that don't have a problem with such knives. Making a blade from pattern welded steel that has a high pure nickel content is not done to produce a high performance knife. It is done for one reason only, to make the knife prettier. Just because you and I believe that even art knives should be designed to work optimally, it is obvious that not everyone shares our position on this.

I have a problem with this. Every knife should be HT'd and workable. What happens when a knife is sold as part of an estate sale when some collector passes on. The..Strider(insert whatever art maker you want here) knife gets purchased and used by someone without the knowledge that it was not properly made for use. They use it with possible catastrophic results.

If Wonderwoman was an Art knife then she would have looked like this from a working standpoint:D

I doubt the use of pure nickel in the damascus billet could have catastrophic results. I think it is not optimum. But the billet will not fly apart (nickel makes a good weld!)

That said, I think he is playing fast and loose with terms like "forged" and "san mei" (and even "habaki!) Perhaps this is because he is a stock removal guy jumping into running a damascus production shop. The ABS has created a huge cachet for forged blades, and he wants some of that too.

What a great Tim Hancock knife BTW!

Hi HG1, is that one "san mei" too? Does it show any indication of having a core steel?

Geez, you wouldn't think this would be such a big secret, would you? HG1 - 4 posts total on this forum and three of them on this thread expressing enthusiastic support for Strider knives in general and Strider knives in particular. Hmmmmm. You must be some kind of Strider expert. So - can you share with us what "san mei" damascus is? Are the Strider damascus knives you posted composed of this material?

Neil, you advertise this stuff on your site - if a potential customer asked you what "san mei" damascus was, would your answer be stony silence?

Roger

PS - Peter - OUTSTANDING Hancock!
