Congrats Shadow! You were stationed at Anderson from 89 to 92? I was there those same years.

Yep, when not dealing with the storage/handling of munitions, I was thoroughly trained in the art of 'vegetation control' out in the MSA. :D

LOL I heard that. Leave anything outside on that island for more than a day and it will have either overgrone with boonie weeds, or rusted away.

The BUFFs will always have a special place in my heart, just like the SAC days at Andersen before it was transitioned to a PACAF support base and the 43rd MMS was dissolved.

PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH!!!

Thanks for posting that SAC patch... Mine is in a impossible place to get to right now. I really wanted to add it to my post. I remember seeing the last BUFF sortie leave Blytheville AFB AR in 1992 from my car outside the base. A sad day. Congratulations enjoy that custom knife!

That's no lie! Lol. But, I do miss that island.....beautiful beaches/scenery, great weather, friendly locals and especially the off base fiestas with an over abundance of indigenous food.

Thanks. Not a problem at all....just scanned the patches yesterday since realizing that I hadn't been able to find any pics of these two after an online search.

I aggree, Guam is a beautiful island. And Anderson had the nicest beach on the whole island. Not sure if you ever heard the hoohaw about it, but the locals wanted that beach back badly. I sat on the base Senior NCO Advisory Board, and about every 6 months the Base Commander got a petition from either the Guam Senate or the Yigo village counsel to surrender Tarague Beach. LOL they were pretty much ignored.

I miss a lot of things about Guam. I thought it was MUCH nicer than Hawaii.

LOL....Had no idea about the petitions but yes, Tarague was/is the best beach on the island and I DEFINITELY don't see it ever going back to the locals since I believe Andersen AFB will be there for many years to come due to it's strategic location.

Congratulations Shadow213! Glad to see an airman win the GAW.

Thanks Dave!

Congrats Shadow213! Many thanks to crimsonfalcon07 for his generosity! Thank You to all of our Freedom Fighters, past & present and especially to the living family & friends of those who've paid the ultimate price.

I'm glad you all got a chance to revisit your service memories and got some enjoyment from this giveaway. I'm actually adopted, and my life could have gone in many worse directions, without the opportunities I've been given (and am still being given) by the US as a whole, and by the US military in particular. There are so many people who take what they've been given for granted, or worse, sneer at the gifts they've been given by this country, and at the sacrifices that made those things possible. At the risk of getting overly political, it seems to me that our country is far too polarized right now. I don't wish to take sides, of course, but for Independence Day, I wanted to get back to what really ties us together, and thank those who have served and sacrificed, and all too often get no thanks from anyone. I wish I was in a position to offer a free blade to everyone who entered, but alas. Military discounts will, as always, apply to anything I sell, blades or otherwise, however.

Thanks again for the participation and service, and please feel free to keep sharing pics and stories. There's no prize pic yet because Shadow's getting a choice, and the prizes are still out at heat treat.

Finished up the prize for Shadow. He chose a small low profile integral EDC. This one has a 3.25" blade, and at his request, I made a basic low-ride leather sheath. My stitching is still fairly amateur, as you can see, but the sheath is weatherproof, has excellent retention, and will resist water and sweat (although it may not work as well against full immersion; it should still do better than your average leather sheath). Thanks again for participating.

Nice and thin:
