I been carryin a thick pair of leather gloves with me in the woods for a while now regardless of season...I picked em up in the hardware store for about 5 bucks...I can pull my metal cup right off the fire adjust wood or hot rocks as needed. (obviously you have to be smart about that) great for grabbing stuff while making a debris hut..grabbing negotiating through thorns or handling spiny plants, as well as numerous other tasks, they are tough as nails require no care are light, and uhh....they also keep my hands warm.

I have to agree with you. Also (don't laugh) they help keep your hands clean.
Also they will keep you from getting blisters if doing some heavy sawing or axe work.

Yep, a pair of thick leather gloves can't be beat in the outdoors regardless of the season.

I carry them too. I cut trees for my living all chainsaw work. I were them every day one way or another it seems.

I carry leather gloves too for the same reason stated above. Although I alway have them in my truck for when I go 4 wheeling(keeping my fingures from getting pinched by chains and what not) and other outdoor adventures.

Yep, for SAR or other rope work leather work gloves can't be beat. For just cold/wet work though, I switch to wool mittens with the finger flip-ups on the ends for tool/gun use.

GEC, I'm not sure what you mean by "pinched by chains"... I'm hoping you mean tow chains and the like, and not bike drive chains. I've always read that when working with machinery (i.e. with gears, drive chains, etc) is that you shouldn't wear gloves because they're more likely to get caught in something and pull your hand in. If that's not what you meant, great, but just thought I would throw that caution out there.

I've also added leather gloves to my normal gear. I try to make it a habit when working around the fire to wear them. I also try to wear them when gathering firewood, using the saw, machete, and axe.

I keep some in my pack/kit as well. Seems like my bandanna gets used for most stuff, though. Now there's my indispensable item. ;)

not much of a glove man, i have monkey hands and never seem to be able to find a pair that fits right.but i won't leave home without my bandanna. my zippo and my knife.

I agree too. they`re great for wading through heavy brush. Keeps thorns and splinters out of the skin.

Yep, I meant tow chains or getting steel splinters from winch cables.:D I personnaly use tow straps with or without hooks for recovery or being recovered. Some of my friends still use tow chains, which in my opinion is way to dangerous.

I like to use a pair of nomex fire gloves. Probably the best way to rearrange your fire is to just reach in and grab the flaming logs. I love em.

Whenever I go out I grab a pair of leather gloves. Even when we go ice climbing I keep a thick leather thinshulate lined ones handy. They help a lo while working with ropes or rappeling down ice falls. That saves the expensive climbing gloves for when they are really needed.

As it is usually very wet here, I can and have destroyed leather gloves much quicker than Ironclads. I have gone back to leather at least a dozen times, because I would find something tough and less expensive, just to be dissapointed again. I won't buy leather anymore unless it's for the kids or something dry and not too demanding.
