Inexpensive knives for co workers...

personally, I find the opinel too brittle for the abuse the co-workers have demonstrated they are willing to perpetrate on a knife.
RAT1 is a good knife - I've been impressed with mine.
CRKT BULL would be another good semi-tactical looking, GP/U knife as well, if they haven't dropped them already. ($20, thick recurve blade, pockets easily)
I like the looks of the dozier folders, but am not a fan of hollow grinds - personal bias and not wanting to start an argument over grinds.

The small SAKS, sodbuster, almost anything by Rough Rider. RRs are traditional patterns, made in China but well made, almost all under $15. Razor sharp out of the box, let them learn the old fashioned way :D We did.

thats why it would be a good choice, would teach them how to use a knife properly.

I gave a couple of co-workers SS Delicas back in 04 for covering for me during Christmas. Both co-workers still carry them every day. It really is neat to see them using their Spydies. I don't normally give gifts to people I work with but this was a situation where if they wouldn't have covered for me, I would have been in a pickle. The knives "softened" them up. :)

I would truly suggest a Byrd cara cara g-10. I've had mine for a while now and it has impressed beyond belief. Thick spine so your co-workers wont break them as easily, doing something they shouldn't be doing with a knife but we all do whether we admit it or not ;)
Great steel actually (of course not up with s30v for example) but still really great and very easy to sharpen. Strong lockback and very tough g-10. You should try it out...

another + for a SAK.

The sentinal plain edge can be had on ebay around the $20 - $25 mark, easy to maintain and hold an edge well.
