INFI vs RAT(ESEE) 1095

Do you own any ESEE knives? If you don't, you should. I own two, and the abuse I have put them through is all the research I need.

All knives can break, but when a company is willing to back you 100% no matter what broke your knife, that says a lot.

I'm not trying to start an argument, but honestly you are missing out on some of the best knives out there for a completely unjustified reason if you are passing them up because you think they are easily broken.

I agree with everything you said, I also have an RC3, EsEE 6, waiting on EsEE clippoint, and next month Im ordering a Junglas. I know they are tough, but they do sometimes break. I dont own any busses, but I would bet a Esse would snap before one of them would. It focking should be stronger for triple the price!

Part of the appeal of INFI as far as it's toughness isn't about breakage, it's about how the dge reacts to solid impacts. It's made to roll rather than chip. I don't know how that compares to ESEE's 1095 because I haven't hit anything with my Izula

How about it anybody, does 1095 roll or chip?

It doesn't do either of those things, it only cuts... ;)

In all seriousness though, I have never chipped any of my ESEE blades, although I've managed to avoid any real solid impacts with rocks or anything to this point. I have rolled a few edges chopping before striking a hard knot or something, but nothing that doesn't come right out with a few passes on the stone... I helped my friend clear about half of his ATV trails last week with my Junglas, and the edge held up very well.

I've had my Izula for about a month now and I'm extremely impressed with it. I've put it through a ton of work that I wouldn't consider doing with a folder and its held up fine. Needless to say, ESEE has a new customer for life.

Just Something about INFI. :D

Look - my RC-5 came with a sheath! And, 1095 is an available cutlery steel. INFI is reportedly derelict M1 Abrams tank armor belt cut with a hydrogen fusion plasma torch on alternate Thursdays - or whenever the aliens stop by and loan that cutter, as it doesn't normally exist here on Earth.

I believe that there is a Busse in my future. I never thought I'd own a CRK - and now I have a Wilson Combat 'Umnumzaan', so it is possible... just have to figure out which Thursday...

Stainz

Hmmm...... not sure, personally I prefer SR-101. ;)

Kidding...... INFI is good stuff! I had a Game Warden for a time and used it to cut up some frozen meat once. No damage to the edge that I could see.

One day Ankerson... one day. NMFBM LE is definitely near the tops of my "grail knife" list.

I want an INFI knife, I just don't think I need one. I have a solid knife for every category of usage that I use a knife for, and I think I am one of the few that is actually going to stop there for a significant amount of time. My knife collection is complete for now... now it's time to save up for a motorcycle.

Mine is a safe queen, I have the Combat grade as my user. :)

Way I see it... if you break an ESEE for ANY reason.. you get a new one... why pay more for a user? (collecting/custom part of busse's is part of their appeal, and that goes more to different strokes for different folks than actual objective logic)... Given the price differential, I do not see me buying a busse unless I run out of BRKT and ESEE's to try...

That's the one thing that bothers me about Busse: most of their knives are never actually used -- just horded and traded by collectors. A knife is meant to be used, not waste away in a safe. And that goes double for a quality knife that's made for hard use. If I ever buy one, it's going to be a cheap, ugly, proven user.

Wrong, The thing that bothers you(have no idea why) is not true.

Busse is not cheap, or ugly, and are a VERY proven user. Both companys make great knives, but you get what you pay for in each case.

Esee is a good knife for the price, with a good steel, but I really dislike there handles, and have never found one that feels good in my hand(wear xl glove). I do have and like there Izulu for a neck knife.

I have no axe to grind but my only cmoparison is:

I got a new Junglas and a Bushwacker Mistress 1 week apart. The handle of the Busse belt roomier and comfier (only because I opted $$ more for G-10 slabs).

The Junglas has a nicer blade shape IMO. It arrived scary sharp, but the Busse would snag on paper like a poorly sharpened or dull knife.

I posted this in the BUSSE forum and was told that "Jerry ships them that way for safety reasons, so we don't lose any of our digits," and was steered toward sharpening it myself or sending it off somewhere for final sharpening.

It was "Full Convex" yet had a little V grind on the edge. Thanks for that??

The BWM cost more than 2x's + a BM 710 more than the Junglas which was INFInitely sharper, had a much better coating and a superb adjustable Kydex sheath - the BWM came in a cardboard sheath.

I was forced to sell the BWM at cost to keep from getting mad about it. I guess I missed the whole HOG but I'm very happy with my Junglas which has cleared a lot of brush and chopped down a few thin trees and never seen more than a strop.

My choice is 1095 ESEE & their warranty all the way.

Jerry won't have another bottle of Jack Daniels on my dime - for sure. Still, I found his community to be awesome folks and was invited to some local Busse gatherings in my area - out of the blue as soon as I divulged my location - good people and a solid customer base. I must have missed something?

Just saying.... :)

These are both great knives, great steel, it's like arguing which whiskey gets you the most drunk.

I wish that was the case. I've seen enough "never used never sharpened" posts and pics of shiny new knives to know differently.

You misunderstood me there. I just meant I'd look for one in ugly condition. It'd get there pretty quick with me anyway, so why pay for mint?

That's not good to hear since I have an ESSE-6 coming tomorrow. I'm already prepared to remove the scales and reshape them if necessary though, since I've read similar comments by other folks here. Busse and Rat handles are no doubt better designed.

ive never handled a busse, but im assuming its the same with busses as it is with some other knives- youll never understand the hype until you try it

I have used my NMSFNO more than once. Busse knives take quite a bit of use before much wear will show.
