I tried searching for info on an Extreme Ratio BF1 and could not find anything. Does anyone own one and have any input on it.

I'm looking for detailed info on the lock and am also interested in the overall performance of the knife and the pocket clip. Also - Some detail about the blade (ease of sharpening, edge retention, etc.) would be great.

Thanks in advance!

Seven hours and no one answered yet ???

Give it time! ER is an expensive brand so you won't see as many of them out there and they don't have a major marketing presence in the US being primarily a European military supplier.

If you'd asked about the Nemesis (AKA the Faida) or the MPC, I could reach for mine. If the steel is the usual ER steel, N690CO, I can say it takes a nice edge and holds it through some abuse.

All the ERs I've handled or seen have been overbuilt. As tough as any folders on the market, including ZT or Strider or CRK.

LMAO - I know.... I'm used to getting some responses in a matter of minutes. :D

Sure ask about a Spydie or a Kershaw and you get too much information immediately. :D

I don't own any of they're folders, but I do own the fixed blade Fulcrum. She's a beast. the steel is cobalt steel that cryo treated. I have yet to try to test it to its limits, but ithey're more than capable of handling normal chores. easy to sharpen. because of the blade geometry. not too sharp out of box. the grind starts about 1/4 of the blade down and it's a short profile. reprofiling may be needed. they're rugid knives. They're folder is one of the most solid folders out there. I believe knifetest.com did a destruction test on it. check it out. are there better knives out there yea. is it worth buying?, depends on you. do you like the design? is weight an issue, cuz they're pretty heavy. handles are rather annoying cuz they're skinny on the front. well built though. check out youtube vids on it.

I have a bunch of ER FBs and they are all really Sharp and sharpen up easy yet still Hold an Edge forever. BF1 stands for "basic Folder" so it's not has beefy has the Fulcrom or Nemisis, but it's still more heavy Duty then 99% of other folders out there, And it's not going to be 3-$400 like a Nemisis or Fulcrum. But still really tough. You shouldn't be paying more then $150 or less for a BF1 or BF2. I personally LOVE ERs N690. It Has the Best of everything(IMHO) Not many American makers use it. They are on the extremely expensive Hossom/Spyderco FBs though. And they are Great Knives. The BF knives have a GIGANTIC Pivot too. Great Knives. I don't own one, but have handled one many times, and it's the same steel as My ER FBs, it's Really Impressive.

The BF1 is 3 ounces the BF2(Pitt Bull) is 4.2 So they are considerablly light for Having Such a GIGANTIC Pivot. Full flat grind on both models too. So Extremely Sharp.

Also I might add, Have you ever noticed,(I say this about ER knives all the time) That things that say " Made in Italy" Are always Great Products? Different Cloths, ray-Ban and other sunglasses, Versace. Different Cars? The ER knives have that same style and feeling.

There is a secret cabal of ancient Romans that have been guiding the fortunes of the country since classical times. They slip up sometimes dealing with the Germans and haven't been able to figure out the French, but they make sure no one but themselves can rule Italy effectively. And they constantly upgrade their standards on luxury items.

one more thing. My Sharpnels are Fully flat ground, And I'd compare it's cutting performance to a Spyderco Manix. Out the Box it Shaved easily. I haven't even touched it up yet and it still shaves, the one I use. I also Have a Harpoon II. It's not flat ground. It's a Strange Dagger type grind with a thick center and tantoish shaped. It's a Pure fighter, But it still can Push cut news print like nothing was there, and cut free hanging thread. It's really impressive. So I would Imagine the fully flat ground N690 cobalt steel of the BF1 would be an AWESOME Cutting machine.

LMAO:D
I knew it was something like that.lol. I forgot to mention the Barretta 92s the nearly every AMERICAN Serviceman is issued as a Sidearm. And the Women too:cool:;)

Hey Esav, Still thinking about getting a Nemisis. The American Version is called Fadia? It would be cool NOT carrying a BIG Black knife that says "NEMISIS" all down the handle. But these BF1s and BF2s are looking sweet for the price right about now, But I think the level of the Nemisis and Fulcrum is Up there with Strider ect.. would you agree with that? Per se`?(Don't want to start a whole new thread on the Nemisis, I have seen them just can't find them)

Someone else has rights to the Nemesis name in the US so ER changd it to Faida (Feud). Same knife as the MPC (Multipurpose Combat) but the back of the Faida blade is level with the back of the handle and the back of the MPC blade is level with the top of the upper guard. And the MPC has a small section of very nice serrations.

Both of them are as strong as any folders on the market, and better fit & finish than many, including Strider. The skull-crusher butt is a massively strong, 1/4" chunk of N690.

OH,YEAH!! Thats what I wanted to hear. I love Folders with a glass/skull breaker pommel.(Fairly rare on Folders) Truly makes it Multi purpose. Noss can break all the bricks he wants and not damage the Blade OR handle. Good for me for Fire/rescue apps.

I see that there used to be an Extreme Ratio sub-forum here and it doesn't look like it has been active in quite some time.

Thanks for the tips on the A on the end of Extrem_

The ER forum closed down when the moderator, who was the ER North American representative, left them to start his own knife company ... dum dum dum dum dum dum dum dum ... D A R K . O P S

LOL

I shot him an email using the email info on his user name here... :)

We'll see what I get back, if anything.

I like them too. I was able to handle a BF-1 some years back. Very EDC-able regardless of the all-metal construction which gives it just a tad of heft (Jack Bauer should get one if he decides to dump that auto! :D )

I think there was a guy a year or two ago that showed-off his and said that despite not engaging the secondary lock, the primary liner lock was solid enough (the secondary lock is a good thing though since I'm very picky with liner locks).

Here's an up close pic from Heinnie.com and a so so shot of the lock-up FWIW -

BTW, they've got a new model heavily for SD, the Panther but from what I understand, it's still got a few bugs that need to be resolved. There's a Youtube vid about it for anyone interested.
