Info on Calypso jr. please.

I'm with Max in that I think the compression lock, as excellent a design as it is, is under utilized.

A 4-way clip, G10, VG-10 Caly Jr. with a comp lock would be the cat's pajamas...
;)

What I wanted is para military handle (may be a little smaller handle) with Caly. Jr VG-10 blade on it. I think the current Caly handle shape is not suitable for self defence purpuse.

1st choice: Slim G-10 scales, Compression lock, ZDP-189

2nd: Slim G-10 scales, ZDP-189

Although I LOVE all the suggestions before this, and would try to buy any of them, isn't the Caly Jr. a natural for the regular Carbon Fiber treatment? Those always seem to be limited runs targeted at collectors anyway, so why not? I'd sell my first born to buy one (no, not literally), and I know others would, even if in lowly(!) VG-10. Thoughts?

Now there you go! That would be a knife worthy of true lust. Use a very dense wood and stabilize it.
Truth is Hugh that, properly stabilized, even balsa would work. In fact, from what I've been lead to understand, less dense woods are "better" for stabilization than dense ones as the resin gets "sucked" more thoroughly and deeply into them when the vacuum is applied.

I hear alot about micarta, some prefer it over G-10. What is the feel like? It looks like it would be kinda slippery. The grippyness of G-10 has secured it as my fave.
It really is a bit more complex than that.

Spyderco tends to finish micarta "for show" and G10 "for go". G10, the way Spyderco uses it, has a textured surface finish intentionally applied to it. Smooth G10 can be polished until it's as slick as polished metal. Canvas micarta, sanded to a fairly coarse finish (say 200 grit) provides excellent traction without the roughness of textured G10. Linen micarta, finished the same way also provides good traction (though not quite as good as the canvas when dry). Both types of micarta provide more traction when wet than when dry, a handy trait. Of course there is a trade off, rough sanded micarta looks almost as ugly as textured G10.

Now I got my Caly Jr. in my hands. I just would like to mirror finish the cutting edge.
Anybody knows what is its factory angle?

Thanks

Thanks for the support Rick. I love that avatar man.

Tip up!!! Although it's nice to have left/right choices like the ZDP model...

I must be one of the few who actually LIKE the FRN handles. Really. I love the texture and feel, and will take them any day over natural materials or G10. But that's just me...

The rounded back is nice, but I like a square back for firesteel use. In a pinch, I can usually use the choil, never the edge...

I pretty much agree with you. If you're going to use ZDP-189 again, do another run in FRN, possibly in a different color.

If, on the other hand, you want to do bolster and scales version, then go all out and do it as a high end gent's knife. No clip, Damasteel blade, and wood scales would be my suggestion for that.
This man seems pretty wise...lets follow one of his options...

I do agree with the Deacon on the ZDP issue. I don't really see Sal releasing the Cally Jr. in ZDP again, but if he did, a different color of FRN would be most suitable. If another ZDP Cally were put out, I would like to see one in solid ZDP. But my vote still rests on the US Penknife release, locking back,
S30v steel.

I am deleriously happy with the Caly, Jr. ZDP189!! I think it is the best knife in it's class.
