Bit by my Benchmade 42. Didn't notice until I realized there was blood being smeared everywhere.

This little one hurt like hell; I was wrapping a few knives in paracord and trying to shove it through a hole with a little screwdriver. It decided to shove between my thumbnail and skin...healed fast over just a day though.

Not really a knife blade but rotating a band saw blade, no pushstick and I slipped, sawed right through the hail, nailbed and right along the bone, that was 5 years ago and I can still tell when the weather changes, (still hurts like hell some days).

OK, I know accidents can happen but some of you guys might need to think about safe knife handling. You are doing something wrong.
One more thing, stay away from firearms. :D

I learned my lesson well 23 years ago. I was making a hole in the collar of my uniform jacket (Finnish military) to attach my new "stripes", actually chevrons stamped out of some soft, shiny metal, with folding pieces of metal to keep them in place. You had to cut holes into the fabric to push them through. I was using a SAK, small blade, and it snapped on my thumb. Cut the tip of my thumb in two, stopped when it hit bone. It was late so I just put a band aid over it and went to the infirmary in the morning. Stupid move, the doctor said, but there was no infection, and only maybe 5-6 stitches. But in time I lost all feel in that thumb tip.

Haven't had any knife-related injures since. Seen plenty on others, though.

In 8th grade I was sharpening a pencil with a utility knife. The blade lodged into the lead of the pencil and stuck, so I pushed harder. It gave and went straight through my right index finger, removing half of the flesh from the last knuckle up. Doc sewed it back on and to this day have no feeling in the tip of that finger. Last week I was playing with my new HEST, drew it from its sheath for the first time and pulled it across the inside of the 2nd joint on my middle finger. the 4 stitches come out in a few days.

I was working on my buffer and the UPS kid came in unexpectedly and grabbed my arm to tell me I had a delivery. The blade caught in the wheel and in less than a flash, had hooked me good. Had it not been the fact he was actually a good kid, I'd have popped him in the snot locker for doing that. If there's one tool in your shop that hates you the most...it's a power buffer....remember that.

WOLFJOHN! OMFG! That is absolutely horrible. I commend you for not knocking his teeth out.

To all of the other's, HOLY SHITE!!!!!! I can hardly bare to look (esp Sparky), awesome!!!!!

I have a decent story though no pics.

Was drunk, and opening my spyderco repeatedly, as fast as I could, yeah I know, very stupid. Well it caught the top of my finger flesh and drove into my finger nail. I shit a brick, my buddy hooked me up with liquid band-aid which hurt about a million times more than the cut. Right after, I had to piss. Another bad move as I was dizzy and sweating like a pussy from the liquid bandaid. While urinating, I managed to pass out. I woke up with my pants around my ankles, my head on a scuz nasty toilet, and my uncut hand in my own piss water.

Dont drink and play with knives.

This Winter, right before a big snow storm, I was out chopping wood with a really sharp hatchet and I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing. Then, all the sudden, the tip of my thumb went bye byes. THat white thing on my thumb is a piece of NON STICK bandage stuck to my thumb.

I was over at the potential parents-in-law's place, hanging out for the weekend and playing with my new canoe. I had just been bit by the Rough Rider bug, and was curious about the quality on some of their slipjoints. This pretty little yellow canoe had me boggled by the fit-and-finish, since it was just so darn inexpensive. The only issue I had with it was that the smaller blade required a strong pull.

Well, I wasn't paying as much attention to the knife as I should've been, and I accidentally closed the blade without moving my index finger completely out of harm's way. It started to drip, and I had to go to the store and pick up some super glue to fix the problem.

Just thought I'd put this in here because I'm seeing it a lot. You shouldn't use super glue on a deep laceration unless you have no other choice; it can cause tissue and more importantly, nerve damage and prevent any severed nerves from growing back. Superglue's great if you're out in the middle of the woods but it's not the best given another choice.

Thought I'd re-post this since it seems to fit here...
I recently got a Falkniven Thor for my birthday, It comes with a pretty sharp convexed edge, but not being satisfied with "pretty" sharp, I worked on it untill it was hair popping.

So the other night I'm standing in my kitchen messing with this knife, when it slipps from my hand.... before I can think, I grab for it with my left hand (no I'm apparently not too bright) it takes a chunk cleanly off the end of my middle finger.

Focussed on my finger I hear the knife hit the floor but feel no other pain. I take a step, and the weirdest sensation hits me... it feels like the floor is caveing in under my right foot...

I look down at my ankle and see this...

OOPS!... Turns out I severed my achilles tendon without even feeling it! DOH!!!

I rapped it with a dish towel and sinched it up tight with my belt, luckily the wife was there to drive me to the hospital. She wasn't too happy considering we're having a baby next week, and now she'll have to take care of both of us.( Ironically she baught me the knife in the first place )

Surgery went Ok, and a day later I was sent home. The important thing is that "NO KNIVES WERE HARMED" in this incident! LOL!

Here is a new pic of what it looks like today, 9/16/09... I call it Frankenfoot...

Not if you use it properly and glue the top layer instead of just saturating the mess in superglue.

What he said!!

Good point, I still wouldn't use it on finger wounds though, it's hard enough to get feeling back in it as it is. I just got feeling back in my index finger from a nasty gash I got at work a couple of months ago while working on a fence. It took nine stitches, and it was bone deep. I don't believe I have any pictures of that one. I kept the chunk of aluminum wire I cut it on as a little reminder to watch what I'm going when working around rusty fences with jagged edges.

Knives are a lot like guns. Make SURE you know where the damn thing is gonna go , if you miss !!
