Input for the new RAT PAck design

So far it sounds like all the reasons I don't currently have one are going away. Looks like I'll be adding several to my shopping list.

One thing i would like to add is instead of the traditional threaded molle with snaps maybe offer it with Malice clips from tactical tailor that can be replaced if damaged

And maybe a holder for the AH-1 arrowheads inside of the pack

Mike, I like the idea of paying less, will it be USA? Some products coming out of china an taiwan look good but don't hold up. THX

Thanks for the opportunity to put in our 2 cents. My pack is an excellent piece of gear and whatever the new one is will be as good or better I have no doubt. Thanks to you and Jeff for all you guys do with/for us customers.

1. As I mentioned in the other thread, moving the snaps on the molle straps a little further down to prevent stitching from working loose. I think the pics below show it pretty well. This could also partly be caused by how tight the hard backing made the molle webbing. Tought finding that happy medium, I know.

2. Kind of along the lines of what GD said, have the pack available seperate mabe and offer interchangeable kydex sheaths for the 3/4 and 5/6 with snap retention around the handle.

3. Maybe an offering in OD green as well.

4. D-rings on the back of the pack, at the top, allowing the user to attach a shoulder strap/sling. I made a paracord one for mine and I really like it.

5. If a sharpener is coming with, I might ditch the holder on the sheath and just use a Ranger band if possible.

That's all I've got for now. If I think of more, I'll be back! :D

Give us a call. We will be happy to repair the kit and get it back to you.

Maybe the Colombians have room on their plate for some more soft goods.
I like that patch.

I don't have a pack, but it's a great idea. I already have a HEST and an RC-4, so a pack available without the knife would be great. Probably off topic slightly, but I would like to see something for the Izula and HEST also. I want something which covers the entire knife for city carry. A self-contained minimal survival kit. Maybe the size of a checkbook, more or less, but thicker and slightly wider. Thinner than the current pack, but able to carry a few items, like a signal mirror, firesteel, paracord, small flashight, etc. I'd like to be able to carry this in a cargo pocket for EDC or drop into/MOLLE onto a Maxpedition Jumbo. It would be easier than carrying everything loose. The HEST would probably have to ride diagonal due to it's length. Thanks for alowing the input.

Good call on the HEST pack idea. It'd be great to have a way to discretely carry an urban kit.

These will probably be made in Colombia since we're so impressed with their quality on the Junglas BackPack and their pricing to quality ratio is just un-matched.

Fantastic.
From all reports, the backpack is superb quality.

I will definitely be picking up one or two of these packs when they come out.

I'd love to see a specific designed Izzy/hest mini grab kit. In the meantime, check out the Janus pack from maxped. You can rig izulas or hests under the outside flaps, or stuff inside. It's a good small size, and the removeable strap let's you clip it right into a jumbo/ fatboy

A couple of ideas...

I like it when packs are lined with a high visibility color like orange or yellow. It serves two purposes. It adds another layer for durability sake and makes items easier to find in a small pouch.

How about a pack that is similar in purpose the Wilderness Tactical Safe Packer. It would basically be a flap holster with a non-typical shape. It could carry an RC-3 or HEST concealed along with an easy to access handgun.

Yep. It gets a bit fat tho when you pack it with all the stuff I have in mine, but still workable. I drag it around but the knife sticking out of the shock cord is off-putting for some people. :D
I'd rather have a RAT pack with complete conceal for knife.

I am getting all this. Great input. The replaceable MOLLE straps are on the table. Although we can repair anything if it tears up it is much easier not to have to do without your pack and just holler for new parts.:) And yes the Colombians will probably build the new one and the quality will be at least as good as what you guys are used to at a better price. We are upgraing some of the parts and eliminating a few snags that guys complained about on the original versions. The originals were good products and still are but we always have a mind to improve and listen to the customer.

Stop sweet-talking me out of my money Mike! :D

Definitely like the idea of being able to buy the new pack without the knife - either that or making it available with all sizes and varieties of knife (HEST, clip-point balde ESEE's, etc) on your website. That's the main reason I never picked one up myself.

Also, a more subdued logo would be a plus for some of us - I know its just advertising and brand-pride, but the old patch was a little bright and "in-your-face".

Sounds like the new sheath inserts will fit a little better and won't require the cord wrap(?) That's a big improvement as well. If it's not secure enough to hold the knife, then it should just be a single velcro strap on top (like your molle backs) or something similar.

Love the idea of the package deal with the firesteel, sharpener, etc though. Keep that for sure.

Thanks for giving us the opportunity for feedback...

Two words.

Flask. Pocket.

I didn't know O'Douls's NA and 2% wine coolers came in a flask. :D

As has been mentioned somewhat, Mike, I'm all for more pockets, etc. on the outside of the pack. The inside storage on the LMIW kit was cool, but as you know was somewhat limited to flatter items. The fire kit holder was awesome, but in the end, I removed it and put it in the front pocket and it actually made the kit ride better because the tight backing plus the fat fire kit in the fold of the pack made it somewhat hard to close.

Instead of a chicago screw, maybe a pin and split ring if that is going to be in the new design.

It's a pretty neat feeling talking about product ideas with a company I have so much respect for. Feel like our input is considered and that we're more than just paying customers.
