Input for the new RAT PAck design

OD Green to match my Junglas pack :D
instead of the screw set up to hold sheath ,use a pin and a split ring set up or small cottor pin.
I would opted for the sharpener to be placed in loop on front pouch .
This is my set up currently,I can switch from Izula sheath to ESEE 3,4,5,6, in seconds and never worry about a loose screw.quick & easy with security

TexasTonydobbs:thumbup: Wow Great Idea !! Love it

The patch was already subdued on the next run of RAT Packs before we started looking for a new vendor. It will be a dull green and black ESEE patch. No bright colors. That idea was originally brought to our attention at SHOT Show by Dustin and Maria from EM Gear. We may be able to retrieve the new patches from Iron Mountain but if not we will have more made and they will be on the new RAT PAcks. The pin and split ring is a very good idea. What is the diameter of the pin? Was that something you manufactured or put together from stock parts?

Aircraft parts Mike or Tractor parts however you want to look at it... Clevis pins any diameter you want , my diameter is a tad small reason for the washers...but can be ordered any length & diameter you need.

Dang it, dunno what happened :) I'll repost again when I get home :) hahaha, dang it!

If there are inside pockets, I'd like to see them be top opening instead of side opening also.

Old Pack - Dislikes:
1. Like some have mentioned, the webbing was a bit to tight, and after only a few uses, began to loosen the stitch work.
2. The snaps were also a bit to close to the webbing, so all that pulling was causing the snaps on mine to come slightly loose or less retentive I guess I am trying to say?
3. I had issues with opening my zipper on the pack as well because of the sharpener, but after taking a little bit of the material off, it closed easily.
4. Maybe move the mount to where the spine of the pack is, and move the placement of where the fire rat can go, elsewhere?
5. The pack felt a bit to skinny, and when attempting to load it with a fair amount of items looked very bulky, and the stitching issue I was having on its back, did not inspire confidence in it.
6. The holder for the sharpener, was difficult to find twigs or random sticks to push it out, decided to carry my Ti Chop stitcks in the pack as I used them for other things too, and helped pop it out.
7. The straps feel a bit flimsy, while the stitching and webbing on the back are overly tight, and the stitch work was coming off in certain places, I cant complain, though I got it in new condition off another owner, it was used. And I didn't pay much for 2 high quality rc5's and a pack.
8. The interior front pouch seemed a bit odd ended, I have been having alot of hit and miss issues with maxpedition, crooked stitching and straps, thread/stitch work that is coming undone quickly even though some packs and bags are maybe a month old at best...I feel this pack was a great item, but improvements can be made, its a shame, I kind of want to buy the pack by itself from the maker, and see if it holds up better than this one, because I am left sorely wanting in department of durability and craftsmanship. For this item, I had a chance after my original post not popping up to check out a friends dbl pack a black and a khaki one, both he's been using for a while now, and are in same worn condition as mine, if not naturally.
9. The tie roping is really nice actually, just not in its use lol. I think such an item would be great to have cause I used the one on the pack and the rings for my izzies since the rings are starting to pile up :) as a trap, worked on my big dog...just hes a bit to heavy for it to lift him I think lol. But in terms of holding my 5 and such, I found it a bit clumsy, and cumbersome to deal with, and the flat sheath inside was flimsy and I was always worried it would fall apart or something, just my observance.
10. When I use the pack it feels dragged and saggy with the weight of the 5 inside, when I add other items like my tin and its stuff, and small other things like a tuff writer, or etc, the pack feels EVEN MORE droopy and I am afraid it will drop, or spill open, I often use cord to help tie it to my bag its already using the webbing for, just in case. Not feeling to confident in it. As of this morning I have cycled it out and off my bag, Just have 5 mounted to bag directly.

Old Pack - Likes:
1. I really like the front elastic webbing, really handy for machined alumi defensive pen, or machined alumi pen screw driver.
2. Like the idea of the velcro strap at top to secure as well after zipping. Great idea!
3. While a bit to contend with, the knife and sharpener combo paired inside with the fire rat, I think better positioning could be used.
4. Like the straps in back but a bit to soft, and didnt inspire confidence in strength.
5. Like the loop at the very bottom, very very handy, oddly.

Suggestions:
1. Slightly wider pack, at least for such a big and heavy knife as the 5.
2. Stitched and more stitched everything :) to much cant be a bad thing :)
3. Removeable and replaceable Malice, for repairability?
4. relocating the mounting for the knife away from the zippers opening face?
5. A sized to fit pouch for tin, but also maintain maybe a slightly larger compartment for other items?
6. Abbrasive resistant/rubber bottom with opening to drain water? (Could this be implimented in the Junglas Backpacks as well?)
7. Maybe velcrow interior lining in orange for visibility as well ability to maybe use 3rd party add ons for more organization? (Could this be done on the junglas backpacks as well?)
8. More concealed and public minded maybe?
9. Velcro removeable logo patch in matching colors, I loved the old patch, but its bright! Hahaha.
10. Shock Cord to maybe compress wrap some things, or hold in place like how the fire rat sits in the current pack, the cord can wrap around its rod?
11. D rings so maybe for some who want to just carry the pack by itself, could use a sling or cord to wear it comfortably?
12. Offer other colors? My wife was talking about how she loved her Izzie in pink, and wondered in a convo with me if the 5 or junglas would come out in pink, or maybe if the iz, 3,5, and J would come out maybe in red? Or if the packs would come out in that color as well? She said maybe for customers who aren't looking to fly under radar?

I'd love to see a specific designed Izzy/hest mini grab kit. In the meantime, check out the Janus pack from maxped. You can rig izulas or hests under the outside flaps, or stuff inside. It's a good small size, and the removeable strap let's you clip it right into a jumbo/ fatboy

Will the Janus hold the HEST inside? I looked at the Maxpedition EDC Organizer, but it doesn't appear long enough. Maxpedition's bags/packs always seem much smaller than they appear on the net. We're waiting ESEE! Thanks for giving us stuff worth waiting for.

Well, first and foremost: international sales.

1. Beyond that I like to see different sizes and molle on the front or side (probably not possible).
2. D-Rings
3. Elastic dividers inside, not much of a fan of mesh.

Bring it on.

@JDK1
The maxped edc has a very thin construction and I wouldn't suggest it for knife carry. It is actually meant to be positioned on a backpack to fit some pens, a folder, ID's and maybe a flash light but then it would be bulging. For some reason the molle webbing on the back is limited to 3 rows (it actually needs 5 rows) in the middle which makes it hang forward when attached to a backpack. You can solve the problem by using malice clips that also cover the handle. Yeah, and it also has the stupid velcro patch.

To the knife question: it will fit an izula only at an angle not straight up. It won't fit the hest.

Thanks for the info. It's hard to know much about a product by looking at it on the net. The Janus looks like it might work, but the buckles make it bulky for pocket carry. The ability to quickly attach it to my pack or Jumbo is nice. We'll see if ESEE takes the bait and runs. Thanks again.

Removing the fastex buckle on the front and replacing it with two snaps on either corner of the flap would cut down on bulk and probably a little on cost.

I think keeping the new pack as small or smaller than the current pack is a good idea.

One thing i would like to add is instead of the traditional threaded molle with snaps maybe offer it with Malice clips from tactical tailor that can be replaced if damaged

And maybe a holder for the AH-1 arrowheads inside of the pack

Syndergaard Like Your Idea about a place for a AH-1 Would Be Great!

Much smaller than it is and you couldn't quite fit what I would want to get in one. Much bigger and it loses the niche it is in. You might as well get a smallish shoulder/waist pack.
Personally, I think the gen 1 pack is just about the perfect size.

You know, a little plastic case sort of like the ones SD memory cards use would work great for the AH-1. It'd be convenient as packaging for safe shipping, as well!
