Seeing as there is a specific Benchmade forum now and that I am interested ( as are many) about the new 162 bushcrafter knife , I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the knife's G-10 handles are glued on with epoxy , or is it only the flared tubes holding the scales/liners on ?

Technical question , but I thought it be the right place to ask. :)

Let's hear all about this knife- I've looked at hard a few times. Looks nice and the sheath is a nice change of pace...:thumbup:

Not a bad test. I'm curious as to how BM's S30V is. I'm underwhelmed with their 154cm, but love the M390. I'd be inclined to buy one of these for hunting if the steel holds a decent edge and touches up easily too. In general, I like the design. Good specs on it.

The test in the video should have satisfied the curiosity.

The knife appears made for heavy use , and sure did handle the batonning test well. S30V is an awesome steel.
yet , I am wondering if any high-strength adhesive is used to attach the handle slabs , as this is usually common practice with most bushcraft knife manufacturers.

A simple inquiry to a production question.

Yeah, I didn't have an answer for you, I just had the video handy. If you head over to the benchmade forum and ask in the laboratory thread this video comes from, you might get an answer from one of the benchmade team. My opinion is however they attached it, it's likely strong enough for whatever you can throw at it.

Sure did. It almost looks like he was hammering it with the blade perpendicular to the block and it was putting a lot of lateral force on the edge to get the angled notch yet it still shaved well.

The knife looks intriguing and it's hard to tell from a single picture but I'm just not sure of the handle contours. Looks a little boxy. It would help to see it from some other angles.

I saw those handles and got excited thinking I was seeing Micarta, but I looked it up and it is just G10. Oh well.

G-10 is just as endurable as micarta , and doesn't absorb as much moisture. It's just how it's fastened to the tang that concerns me , especially if I'm going to shell out that kind of money. Looks pretty robust to me though.

Really hard to tell the hand fit from a picture though. I've bought knives going off of photos before that looked great in the picture , but once in my hand was another thing. My only doubt about this one is the bottom rear handle swell.

I'd be willing to bet the handles are held together by the tubes and some adhesive. I do not think the price is extreme, it's available for around $140ish from some places.

I agree micarta seems like it would have made more sense on this knife. It just feels more... organic? than G10. Feels warmer to me. I still dig G10 though! Especially the color palette they chose. I've always wanted the Spyderco bushcraft knife but thought it overpriced. This is priced very well AND it looks far better Imho. Plus the sheath is a definite bonus.

Win!

Are they going to come as a kit with the knife, sheath and baton mallet? LOL

This is looking to be a sweet knife.

I was lucky enough to get one from a local dealer at a great deal. The handles aren't as uncomfortable as they look actually a functional design. It really is a great price on a huge chunk of s30v.
