Instead of a Strider

Umnumzaan (3.675" blade) would be my first suggestion. Very good ergonomics on this knife and both slabs are Ti (a plus in my book, but YMMV).

CQC-12 (3.9" blade ) would be next. As mentioned before it is a large knife, but it has a slim profile. Emerson's G10 is also very grippy imo.

Let us know what you decide on! Cheers. :)

RICK HINDERER. PERIOD. It is Just as tough as Strider. What you mean what you read? their Product is A++. You Must mean Character things? My View is if Devil has Nice sword and drops it, why not kill him with it?

Same as If anyone in America buy AK47 or SKS Rifle. And Not buy M16. Same thing. Great weapon, but made by "Commies". still does it's job. I guess I can Understand your reasoning. but My SMF has sereved me above and beyond for 4 solid years. so I care not who make it.

Besides RICK HINDER, Thats only from top first though because I just Got XM18. But go to( if you want to spen, can spend a lot of money, www.bladeart.com , or, www.arizonacustomknives.com. They Have a LOT of Great Tough knives that Fit your need, but not as Popular of name. still good steel and Frame lock design for strong lock if thats what your looking for.

It's Rick Hinderer. The XM-18 is an awesome knife, but VERY hard to get.

I second the Umnumzaan!!

Hinderer's XM18 is a great knife but hardly the price point range of the SnG or as easy to get as the others mentioned. The ZT300 series is an Onion/Strider design collaboration so if he has a problem with the SnG for 'character reasons' I doubt he'll feel much different about that one or the as yet to be released mini.

One I forgot to mention in production folders that is a nice folder is the large Sebenza which is about the same price.

But don't discount custom knives. I think for the money that some of R.J. Martins customs like the Contender for example, are a knife you could realistically get for around the same money as a production SnG. http://www.martinsite.com/contender.shtml

You might also look over the frame lock knives in his link. I assure you they are top shelf.

The Sebenza is an excellent knife, that I think you would be extremely HAPPY with. The large Sebbie should suit your needs.

I think the OP already has a Sebenza.

I third the Umnumzaan suggestion. Fits all the criteria mentioned, including price. IIRC the SNG and the 'Zaan cost exactly the same.

I vote for the Xm18 as well. I wished the Umnumzaan didn't need a special tool to unscrew the pivot.

If you are avoiding Strider are the Zero Tolerance collaborations with Strider also out? I would think so???

I think a "BUCK"-Strider 880 conversion to framelock would be cool. Otherwise the ZT300's would be the best next thing price wise. If avoiding Strider altogether then move up to the XM-18 as other posters have suggested.

I'll second all these recommendations...

Emerson CQC-12
SG2 Titanium Junkyard Dog
Umnumzaan
Large Sebenza 21
Hinderer XM-18
ZT-0300
ZT-0350
Bradley Alias 1(they also make one with G10 on one side)
Buck Mayo TNT
Mission MPF

I'd also add the Burke Rockstar & this one from Crusader Forge to the mix.

Good Luck :)

[edited to add] You really can't go wrong with the ZT series. They are some of the toughest folders out there for a reasonable price.(<$300)

I haven't had any problems with the Striders I have owned other than trying to resell them but I figure that is the economy. I have a ZT200 at the recommendation of Larry owner of 3 Little Indians knife shop in NYC. He sold me an RCC but truthfully for the bucks spent the ZT200 blows it out of the water. Matter of fact for the bucks spent on any knife lately the ZT200 pretty much blows everything out of the water they are made that well. I think they should tone down the scaling effect on the g10 but I will eventually do that myself. Nope for the money the ZT200 is pretty darn hard to best. keepem sharp

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, just some comments and questions... I currently have a small sebenza which i edc, If i did get a large one I would need to get the micarta inlays (no big deal), I am eager to see what the zt 350 is like, i have handled the 0300 and it was a little big for my hands and pocket, i haven't gotten to handle the um but was wondering what the handles were like, hinderer makes some gorgeous stuff just wondering about getting bent over on availability... thanks for the suggestions, i welcome any more you have

Junkyard Dog II Composite blade KS1725CB.
I have edc'ed for almost 6 months. Works great.

J.W.

I just got one of those in the mail yesterday. For such a big knife it rides in the pocket well, and it flips open with minimal effort. I know the OP was looking for a frame lock but I can't image any frame lock being any stronger than the liner lock on this beast.

I'd recommend the ZT 300 series insofar as they're very well made and built to take abuse. However, I had one and wound up selling it because I felt it was too heavy and big.

I think you're on the right track waiting for the 350.

I recommend the following:

Emerson CQC-12. Had Tom Krein do a standard edge profile on mine & I love it.

Hinderer XM-18. Wish I had gotten on the list when they were going for under $400.

ZT MUDD. Don't have one (need to correct that), but it struck me as a great hard use EDC.

CRK Umnumzaan. Really liked the one I handled at BLADE. Only concern I had was the rubber washers on the thumbstud. Easy fix if they go wrong though.
