Insult to us all: Rambo's tribal knifemaking

The real discussion here is whether or not you can forge a good prop out of rebar!

Rambo KnowS! I'd like to say I taught him but I didn't. Here's a rebar bowie I did in 96: http://bladegallery.com/shopexd.asp?id=3093&photo=1&size=b It was forged from a 1" or number 8 bar. If I had know how to forge then the blade would have been 3" wide. Back then I'd forge the bar flat and then grind the hidden knife out of it. I have no idea what the rebar is like now but the 60 grade bar from then always hardened up just fine in oil. I made a fair amount of extra money on job sites peddling the rebar knives.

Forgot to mention I did things differently back then. Mirror polish, plunged cuts and the whole 9 yards.

I have made many chisels and big centre punches out of rebar but you must choose the one that looks as though it has seams down the side ,most of mine I quenched in motor oil after heating to a cherry red.

Dam, why have I been collecting 5160 and 1095 and O1 and a bit of D2, when all I needed was a bunch of rebar. When will I ever learn

Of course the original post wuz more of a joke than righteous outrage aimed @ questionable knife making technique :)

You can argue that in the place he was in, he could not quite FedEx some proper steel from Admiral and whatnot :)

I could've appreciated him pulling out of storage and using the good ole original knife from Rambo I .

The military regiment that he sent back to re-incarnation pipeline ... those were prolly the worst, most wile, repugnant enemies he ever fought in any of the movies. You just wanted em dead so badly for what they do in the movie :)

Stallone also has that nice Bill Moran knife, Although I wouldn't use it in a jungle.
