Here is the culmination of an idea I have had for quite a while. While not original in concept, It is the coolest folder I have made.

I call this model the Bushi. The blade is 3 1/8" of S30V hand rubbed to 800 and ground to resemble the kissaki of a katana. I even polish the tip in similar fassion to a katana. It is a self lock, or Sawby lock as it is also known. The spine of the entire knife is ridged, again like a Japanese sword.

Now for the good part. The frame is machined from a solid bar of 416ss. It's the first of my new venture into "integraframe" folders. I forged the handle material from 1" round bar because I couldn't find the thickness I needed in flat bar. Anyway, the slotting saw I used for the frame cavity was $159. Needless to say I was a bit nervous putting it in the first cut.

The handle is 4" , and probably the best ergonomic handle I have designed. Really feels good, neither too big or too small, and the thumbstud is at just the right angle. The 3D contouring adds a lot to the feel plus the radial texture gives a hollographic shimmer. It also prevents typical wear scratches from showing.

The frame is incredibly ridgid, and is only 3/8" thick. Much stronger than I had anticipated, and there is no comparison to a pinned together piece. One of the features the integraframes will allow me is to thin the spine area down, or be able to carry engraving onto the spine while useing contouring and more complex frame shapes. There are no pins to worry about, or the problem of getting the liners too thin where they support the integrity of the knife against the spine. It really opens a lot of possabilities to do something different.

I was so excited to get this one finished, I forgot to mark the damn thing. I will engrave my name and "prototype" on the spine.

So again, the specs. 3 1/8" blade of S30V at rc 59, katana grind, 4" closed integraframe handle of heat treated 416ss. Self lock mechanism and dual thumbstud for a true ambidetrious folder. I can also do a more traditional drop point, flat ground blade.

The first 10 will be numbered starting with 0 for the prototype, delivered before Christmas and priced at $475 shipped CONUS vis Priority mail. I accept Paypal, Visa/MC, or check.

Hope you enjoy, and I welcome comments.

THANKS!!!

If Mr. Newell is getting the proto-type, I'll take #1. If he is not, I'll take the proto-type. Thanks

Thanks Ron, once I get clarifiication from Gabe I will let you know if you are getting the proto or #1.

PM me with your address and stuff.

;)

Wow, Bailey. Wow.

Sign me up for one as well, any number.

(Um, is there room for a lanyard hole?)

I'd love to have one.....AWESOME grind!!!

I'll take '007', if possible......

Thanks everyone, the first 7 are spoken for. I did skip a number as per customer's request, so #6, 8 and 9 are available.

Seno,

I understand about the tip. I am not so sure it would be personal choice. I like a simple drop point myself.

Only one left.....#9

Thanks so much everyone. Christmas time is usually slow for me, but this year has proven otherwise.

Much more to come in the integraframes. I am working on the details of a collaboration with David Broadwell for this years Blade show, and am working on designing a one piece wrap around inlay. The inlay will go from one side, around the spine and onto the opposite side of the knife....one piece. If I have any hair left after that one, it will be gray for sure :-)

Thanks again,
;)

may i ask what is a integraframe?

is it a framelock?

thanks,

mike

From what I've read, it uses the Sawby or Self lock mechanism, which is a very slick locking mechanism, and the term "integraframe" seems to imply that the whole frame is a single piece of steel, instead of being two halves that have been screwed/pinned together. Makes it very solid.

That's correct, I am using the Sawby lock or self lock as it is known in a one piece frame. I machine the handle from a bar of 1/2" thick heat treated 416ss. It's a lot more rigid than I anticipated, and ends up only 3/8" thick. The lock is contained inside the pivot hole of the blade, so it is self contained and leaves the frame free of springs or levers or lockbars.
