Interested in G10 Eskabar?

G10 and Lexan? Short answer- G10 is tougher material than Lexan and available in many color but transparent and translucent color. (please Google for more info). Both of the designs will have the texture on them when done. They're both Lexan. I don't have any G10 in stock at this time. When we got our votes done. It will take time for me to order G10 and tools. I might have to make new fixture if the 3/8" thick G10 costs too much, so far for 24" X 48" X 1/4" thick G10 will cost about $400 per sheet (please Google G10 cost, then tell me if you found it cheaper). Not counting tools that I have to buy and labor, I might loosing money for this run. But I'm a man with my words, so as long as I have 10 people interested in this then, I will make it happen. I won't ask for any deposit because I believe Beckerheads are trust worthy.:)

Ok, I understand now. I thought I had understood that the models in the pictures were Lexan I just wanted to make sure. I'll try to look around for the G10 pricing, but I'm thinking you did your best.

About the texturing, that's what I figured. Guyon, either model will have the texture look. We just have to create a vote on which model will be chosen. So far, 3 people have went for the carabiner model. No one else has given their opinion.

Sh@rp: What about international shipping...what would it cost to throw them in a envelope and send them to Europe as regular mail.

I see. It's Lexan for this run, and there's only going to be one choice on size and shape.
Well, I'll throw in my vote for the carabiner model. I've long wanted something similar to the Izula II scales for my EsKabar.
Clear would look cool, but black would likely wear better and appeal to more folks.
Black carabiner with the checkering gets my vote, though I could go with Olive Drab as a backup.

So, I'd be in for this shape (color is good too)...

With this texturing on the scales...

The stainless screws look fine to me. No need to find painted screws IMO.
If I want 'em colored, I'll hit the tops with a coat of Krylon semi-gloss.

I see where a few folks mention OD green. As noted above, that would be okay with me. Would look really cool with the texturing on a stripped blade.

I hope this works out. The Izula Scales work okay on the EsKabar, but they're not optimal IMO.
There's a huge difference in feel between the top two knives, and the main reason is that the Izula II scales extend the length of the handle.

I'm down with the carabiner loop. Texturing is great, don't care so much about color as long as it's not too flamboyant.

I'd take pimp purple or even pink if Sh@rp found some cheap G10. :D

Yeah ditto to what Guyon said, I don't really care about the color of the screw(uh, huh huh)/bolt. As he said, I can just rattle can it.

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, these were just prototypes in Lexan. I believe Sh@rp actually plans on using G10 for the actual models.

So far, it seems like everyone is leaning toward the carabiner model. The textured look will be on either model. As far as color, it's still a toss up between black and OD. I'm starting to not care either way, because these scales look great. Any color.

I don't care either way, really.
Black or OD would be fine.
Carabiner model and textured = big thumbs up.
G10 = two thumbs up.

Lexan, I'd take one set.
G10, I'd take two sets.

You Might want to make a few extra for people that May pick up an Eskabar in the future!:D
There will be some extra sets made for those late birdy, my friend:D

I've read this thread twice, and I'm still not sure what is being offered.
Sh@rp, as I expressed to you via email, I am interested in Lexan or G10.
If you're definitely doing a G10 run, I may wait.
If you're offering the clear Lexan this run, I may bite.

Question: is it possible to get the large carabiner hole AND the grippy checkering?
OK, the sample scales are Lexan. For this run, G10 is the material of choice with one color and one style: Big Carabiner Hole OR small Lanyard hole. Both of them will have texture on them. Hope this will clear the confusion.

Sh@rp: What about international shipping...what would it cost to throw them in a envelope and send them to Europe as regular mail.
I think it's cheap but recommend using International priority USPS for tracking. It's about $13.50. Hey, you will have a discount from me, my friend!

Sorry to have created confusion. Sometimes I read too fast.
Now that I know we're talking G10... assuming we reach a consensus that includes black or OD with a carabiner hole, put me down for two sets.

So, it's pretty much established that everyone agrees on the carabiner model? I noticed some people whom were originally interested havn't posted in this thread with their opinion. I'm with Guyon on this, though, I really don't care about the color. Is one color cheaper or easier for you to obtain, Sh@rp?

It seems like the price is the same for all color in stock. I need 3/8" thick G10. So far the price for a 36" X 48" X 3/8" thick is about $660 a sheet. I have to look more for a better price though. Wish me luck.

Wow, no kidding. That's expensive. I'll try to look myself, but I doubt I can do any better than you. If anybody else can look around and find a cheaper price, that'd be great. I'd hate for you to be losing money for this, Sh@rp. I'll try my best, and hopefully we can find something better priced.

I found a few places selling it as "natural color" green, but it's not much cheaper. I doubt "natural color" is very appealing anyways. I'll keep looking.

I think it's the "normal color" one I was talking about, because I think it said around $300 bucks too. The green they are talking about isn't very...nice looking. After looking for a few hours last night, it seems that most people require you to call in for orders like the one we need. Perhaps if I get some time today, I'll make some calls to these companies and try to get a better quote.

I hate to leave the door open this way, but it really doesn't matter as far as handle material to me. Whatever the general concensus is, I'll go with it. Color isn't too important for me either.
