Interesting blade failure on a Sebenza...

"Nice" QC for $400.

Error 404: Logic not found.

Chris Reeve Knives has a long storied history of award winning quality. This one knife that broke after indeterminate usage can hardly be used to make a statement about CRK's quality control processes.

Except for on the internet. :p

I will now use similarly stunning logic:
I have read about people living to be well over 100 years old, who smoked tobacco most of their life.
Hence, I really must start smoking again if I wish to live into extreme old age.

Logic!!! :D

Both the people using this example as proof that CRKs are overpriced AND those saying it must be a fake because CRKs don't ever break under normal circumstances are both blowing this out of proportion; it's a blade that broke in a non-normal way, nothing about this proves anything about Sebenzas' quality (or lack thereof), just that a Sebenza broke once.

To those who use this as 'proof' that Sebenzas have flaws, no one who is of reasonable mind ever said that they were perfect.

To those who immediately assumed it's either a fake Sebbie or it's been abused, you're the reason people post threads like this; when someone holds a knife to impossibly high standards and acts like it's infallible, people feel the need to share this kind of stuff just to prove that said knife is imperfect. No knife is perfect, not even the Sebenza, hence why this one broke. Sure, it's a rare occurrence, but you can't deny it doesn't ever happen to a genuine Sebenza.

Quiet is saying how good CRK's Quality Control is, hence the awards, and that a picture of one knife doesn't change that.
They've won the Blade Show "Manufacturing Quality Award" 14 times since the year 2000.

BS awards are like Oscars for me. And I don't enjoy Oscars.

Your opinion notwithstanding, the awards CRK has won have been bestowed upon Chris by the most worthy of folks: his peers. That's more than you can say for a lot of awards.

Stabkid-

Very clever! Really addresses the issue being discussed.

And the way you changed "man" to "kid", wow, that is so amazingly inventive.
Truly, truly an amazing tour de force of wit and creativity; I'm not sure how you managed such a brilliant mental feat.

Bravo. ;)

My immediate thought opening this thread was, oh boy LeathermanGX must be getting out his lotion!:D

Nothing like the Oscars at all.
"BS" Do you even have any idea who votes for the Blade Show "Manufacturing Quality Award" ???
I didn't think so.

I'll never understand why trolls seem to come out for every CRK thread.
There's a brand or two that I'm not crazy about, but like most others here I just skip over those threads. Not hard to do, and there's no need to troll them.

That Mcusta is a stupid design. Sharp cornered holes in a brittle material ? That's when you let "designers " do it without engineering common sense !

Very important people I suppose.

I really enjoy design of Sebenza, especially Insingo and Regular. But that cult around company is ridiculous.

Well, since I seem to have lost my trusty EDC Sebenza last week, this thread reminded me...I need to be looking for a replacement.

What to get.....

Ok. 100 knives, according to CRK. Funny how this one happened to make international notoriety. So basically, one breaks. From wiping on some pants. Perfect pics are taken, in glorious resolution. Perfect, unblemished pics. In France. Now, this user/pants wearer/professional quality photographer just happens to not only be a "regular joe", but knows exactly where to post these pics for maximum impact. not to some local Frenchie knife collector's club, with a few guys, but to somewhere where people in other countries actually take notice. In an internationally viewed and regularly trafficked area...not saying it's impossible, but i generally play the odds. Guy used it as a prybar, or on a dare, or drunk, probably all three. made a big enough stink in "the right places" to make sure he got a new one.

I manage an eyewear lab in a major optical retailer and we get people in all the time that claim a nosepad arm or temple just came off. Now yes, sometimes it's a BS story to make us think they did nothing, but mostly the constant movement fatigues the metal and it just comes off. My point? I know there is a big difference between eyeglass frames and knife blades, but constant movement and torquing weaken a defect until very little force is necessary when it finally goes. I have no problem believing that wiping it on his pants broke it and it amazes me how many posters have accused OP of lying just based on that...

 The guy posted the pics on a French knife blog hardly the best place to get international notoriety and even if he posted them somewhere like bladeforums it wouldn't be surprising since most CRK owners are knife enthusiast. As for the pics they are pretty low quality pics that any regular joe could take with his phone.
