Interesting Buck 110 modification

in conversation with former employees this "mod"
was one that the buck employees had done a lot as the knife was
'big' in the pocket around machines and such...
Leroy still does this on collector's knives..
as i understood some of the reason that was why the knife got
radisus to start with...
there are other brands that have round lock back frames also..

Now that you mention it, it does remind me a lot of the Boker drop-point lockback. I have a couple of those and they feel very nice in your hand.

Actually, those pics came from *this* forum... :D

But the idea is very cool...(except as Bill pointed out there, that blade has been sharpened way too much)...

Thats an old two dot that has been someones user. It has been sharpened but not on a grinder. I would have to drag out another two dot and compare the blades, but I think it is normal for a two dot.

Ok,,I did,,,your correct Trax,, is missing about 1/16 from sharpening. But that just seems to go along with the rounded slimmer profile.

slick as a gut, gotta try that some time, thanks for the pic i hadn't seen it before.

I wonder how many of them were done that way??

At least one... ;)

That thread & pics originated here, and the poster at Talkblade.info, Sonnyboy (a close friend of mine) :), asked the manglers over there the best way for a mechanically inclined [read: machinist] person to do it...I don't recall who the original poster here was (the guy who did the thinning), but if he's here, I sure wish he'd add some comments...

From the look of the blade, I'd say it was a real beater that had nothing to lose by being rounded & thinned... :D

Glad you all seemed to like it !!! I did too !!!! I did not know it came from here first....

Hi Guys, The knife and original post is mine. Knife is laying here in front of me. I have no clue as to who did the thinning but it is well done and even on both sides. Have to run off to work right now, but if yall wish, will take some more pics of it later.

Good for you, Packy! I couldn't remember who first posted it... :(

You should put a BG-42 blade in it. Blade is laying here in front of me... :D

Pack Rat, so what's you best guess as to weight reduction by the thinning. BTW, I think it looks great!!

Closest I can come in comparing weight is around 2 ounces less. But using an analog scale. Good excuse to get a good digital one :)

Trax, Unfortunately this is originally an old style frame. That beegee 42 blade might not do good in this frame, according to some of the things Joe has commented on about new blades in old frames. New blades seem to be thinner and have some side play??? or something to that effect.

the stamping on the blade is a three line two dot. And the scale has the two tiny scale pins. I suspect that this mod was done years and years ago and it was someones user untill it showed up on ebay around Mar of '06. Unfortunately I lost all of my emails a while back so can no longer even tell you who I got it from.

And, I believe this mod was done without taking the frame apart.

Cool pics!
And thanks i had never heard of that talkblade forum until i read this thread, as a result i have just now registered there! lol.

I did also, earlier. Now if I can just figure out how to post....

The way the lockbar is rounded in the back makes me think that it must have been disassembled, but you can tell better seeing it in person.

I also thought it probably was taken apart and changed a bit because of the matchup of the lock to the blade when opened, but with a user this old there is no telling.

Oh, I almost forgot, since you don't think that beegee will work out too well in this one, I need to send Trax a PM to see if I can get him to part with it! Love the BG42.

I've thought that myself...but it may just be that the loose sanding belt was able to wrap around it better with no bolster in the way...You'd think the grit would have left the blade action pretty crunchy if it was done without disassembly, though...

Schiesz and 334dave, you have mail... :)
