Interesting Buck 110 modification

Talk about good feeling knife in the hand! Here was a project knife I was working on a while back but set aside figured it would be a good guinea pig, It features a flatground modified clip blade which is narrower and has a more acute point than the factory 110 profile, I also shortened, and thinned the bolsters and tonight I did the rounding. I haven't polished it yet becuase I may go ahead and put new handles on it and maybe some filework. I think I need to do one of my bareheaded 110's with the rounded front bolster, I love the looks and feel. It's an older 2 dot BTW

This will be the 110 I carry from now on, feels real good. I'll be doing more like this in the future.

It looks fantastic, but I'm not so sure that I would prefer it over the flat-sided 110's.

I have a 110 with water-buffalo horn scales, which are rounded, but I prefer to use my flat-sided 110's.

I weighed them and they rated 7.6 OZ for a stock 110 and 5.5 oz for my modified 110 so 2.1 oz Lighter than stock. I have thinned the bolsters on 110's to a greater extent and lost over 3 oz of weight.

Would be nice to compare mine with yours Keen. Nice to know it has a mate. :). Your weight differences sound really close to what I measured. I am sure yours are way more accurate. Will be fun to see filal photos...

and quit using your fingers to test sharpness.:D

oh yeah,,,I dug out another 110 from the big toy box that is about half as thin as a regular 110 and looks just like a full sized 110. Came in a lot of 12 that I bought a year or more back. Haven't paid it a lot of attention.
More on it later.

Thanks Keen. The weight reduction alone would be really nice, especially when I want to pocket carry a 110.

yes, I intend to do this mod to a couple of my carry knives would make them lighter and more pocket friendly, the flat-bolstered 110's have a tendancy to wear holes in your pocket. Here is a 110 I drop pointed and beveled last night for a local guy and I went ahead and did my EDC too. It really takes the production look away from a 110 and gives it that custom look.

keensharp: Are you taking the blade out of the handle before you thin it?

Everyone, thanks I appreciate it :)

Blue sky, no the blade stays in frame

Tin Sue, done thought about it just trying to decide whether to leave the ears on or take them off so it better resembles a 110

keensharp, thanks for the inspiration! I am going to do one...or more...of these 110 mods when I get home!

Ron

No, it can be left alone, I just choose to revamp old worn knives and regrind thier blades to make narrower/slicker blades.
