For years we have tested every steel that we can get our hands on. We think that we have developed some pretty good, hands-off, objective tests and are preparing to publish the results (about 4 -6 weeks out at this time). Should be fun.

Stay tuned,

Jerry

I'm in! Fire up the barbie Gundy! Backstraps incoming! Good food, good beer, and a fireworks display waiting to happen.;) :D

God Bless America.:D

Hi, Jerry, do you need some German steels for testing? Like 1.2552 (80 WCrV 8) or 1.2631 (X50 CrMoW9-1-1). Both are quite rare in Germany but according to some metallurgists here in Germany they should make very good knives. I have only their German names, but AFAIK they do not have equivalents in the US. Problem is their availability ...

BTW, how much steel do you need for your tests?

I think the obvious question would be did the steels have the "Bos" heat treatment, otherwise any and all results will immediately be rejected by the custom market.

Paul Bos is a great guy and an excellent heat-treater. He most definitely rings all of the performance possible out of a knife steel. Great guy. . . great heat-treater. Paul and I have spoken in the past about heat-treating and I have always been impressed with him on both a professional and personal level.

These tests will prove to be more informative than controversial. I don't think that there are any really big surprises.

How many different steels have you made knives out of, during your quest. That must mean that aside from the A-2 that you use to use, D-2 had to be in there, as well as 52100, 5160, A-?'s, L-?'s, and CPM-3V, would most assuredly be in there as would be some other CPM metals.

Jerry, it seems to me that you must have tested tons of different steels before comming to INFI. Those steels that you tried out before getting to INFI, is that the testing that we will be seeing.

This should be very interesting.

BOS/E, gotta love it. Will there be a BOS/F?

Needless to say, this will not be the old Ford vs. Chevy argument. There will be facts, not fantasies. There will be data, not diatribe. There will be CBL, not beer.:p

Hi, Jerry!

Did you publish the test results anywhere else ... ?

I am still very interested in the outcomes.

I don't want to ruffle more feathers ;) but there are three names in the knife world that stir up more heated debate and conversation than I believe the rest combined, Busse is one of those names. Anything released by Busse Combat will be scrutinized, tested, debated, argued, defended and loved just by the O.I.N.K'er's. Controversy just comes with the territory.

I'm guessing that Jerry planned on putting the steel comparison chart on the BusseCombat.com website; and that he didn't realize how complicated putting up the website would be, or long it would be delayed.
