Interesting Steel Comparison Tests. . . . . .

I'm guessing that Jerry planned on putting the steel comparison chart on the BusseCombat.com website; and that he didn't realize how complicated putting up the website would be, or long it would be delayed.

Website? Does Busse have a website?  :D

I used 440C on some of the original Argonne Assaults. . . Please forgive me. . .they were for amphibious assault and jungle warfare and their top priority was rust resistance.

Also Vasco Wear, Stellite 6K, 0-1, A-2, D-2, I probably used more D-2 than any other maker out there except for Bob Dozier who is now actually made out of D-2 ---in fact I still have over 18,000 lbs of D-2 in my old shop along with approx. 14,000 lbs. of A-2. I never have to worry about that building blowing away! Also, ATS-34, 154CM in the late 80's when you could only get it in 3/16" thick, very narrow bars 1.25" wide I think), BG-42 sometime between '89 - '91 . . . long before anyone else had used it, that I'm aware of., Homemade Damascus (0-1 and 1018), some other exotic steels I'd have to look up to remember, including a Maraging Cobalt/Nickel "350 Vasco Max" or something like that. . . .Weird stuff, you simply baked it at 900 degrees for 9 hours and it would harden out at 58-60 Rc with no chance of rusting. . . NONE!

I was very fortunate in the steel department mainly due to the fact that Koncor industries is within 8 miles of my shop and they are, or were, a division of Latrobe steel and I believe Crucible. I knew the guys at the plant pretty well, so I got a shot at anything new that came in.

I would constantly go there in search of the perfect steel. . .But I could never seem to find exactly what I was looking for. . . . . .back then.

Happily, I haven't been there since 1997!!!

Probably no suprises with regard to infi, but the Rat in me would like to see how SR-101 fares against A2, D2 and the others. Should indeed be an interesting read.

I guess Jerry's specially modified, custom genetic hamsters to run the site are a little more difficult to manufacture than INFI.

Perhaps some candle light, a nice bottle of wine, some Barry on the stereo.....

Presto! Nuclear hamsters for the Nuclear website!

..... and under the mirrored ceiling, burgundy satin sheets flowing over the circular hamster-sized waterbed beside the wall with the glow-in-the-dark velvet painting of Elvis in his open-fronted jumpsuit guarding the lava lamp.

Yours in nuclear retro-deco. ;)

For years we have tested every steel that we can get our hands on. We think that we have developed some pretty good, hands-off, objective tests and are preparing to publish the results (about 4 -6 weeks out at this time).

Stay tuned, Jerry

Lessee... 4-6 weeks out from 6/26/03... that would be August time-frame.

Still interested... still staying tuned. Did I miss the thread or web link where this info got posted.

Hey, Jerry, why did you post inside OWB's post? Not enough Carling? :D

Ya know, I think alot of us would feel alot less uncomfortable if you wouldn't include such details when talking about hamster love. ;)

Besides, are you talking White or Manilow, LOL! :D

A few? It's been a whole day! Get it up already! :) While the CATRA isn't the end-all be-all of edge retention testing, it is one medium to compare steels, but not very many people publish results, and when they do, it's usually not from very many kinds of steel, and I for one would be interested in it. Why did Busse take it down? Or did it never get put up?

i just read the prelem and it was over 7 pages long! pretty impressive reading to say the least

Well, then, on with the material...

... to quote Larry the Cable Guy... "Git R Done".... ;)
