I thought I'd go ahead and provide a bit about myself now that I've been honored with a position as moderator to help James Mattis.
I'm an ELU or end line user as the industry labels we retail consumers. At age 52 I've been enjoying knives since I was a pre-teen. I recall playing baseball with a simple jackknife with my brother and friends. Also making a leather sheath in 6th grade for my first fixed blade. While I now have a goodly number of blades of various styles and makes, both production and custom, I don't consider myself a collector. The vast majority see use although the frequency with some is in terms of years. My favorites see weekly use.
I hail from Syracuse in upstate New York. But it has been quite a few years since I made it back there. I've been fortunate to have traveled widely, but that's not unusual for someone who choose a military career.
I started with the Army where I earned a Drill Instructor's hat. Then took a commission with the Navy. I became a single parent and finished out in the reserves. I had been employed at a navy nuclear shipyard on the west coast for a decade until BRAC shut her down. The Air Force picked me up on a lateral and I've now been in South Dakota for almost 6 years.
The country here is an outdoorsmans' dream. It gives ample opportunity to use the tools that we who frequent these forums cherish so dearly.
As far as BladeForums.com goes, I was priviledged to become a member on its inaugural evening. I have a background in computers although I'm not employed in the field. I also was heavily involved in the BBS scene, from the earliest days with 120 baud acoustic coupled modems, through software like Fido which broke ground in the exchange of mail packets among distant systems, to being a SysOp of a multi-line PC Users Group BBS. And of course, now with "cyberspace".
I really don't envision my role as moderator changing anything of significance. I will continue to contribute (I'm over 1100 posts now) sharing observations. This is a great site and with just a few weeks shy of a year it has shown that great numbers of folks who share a common interest can indeed exchange information without problems.
Enjoy ya'll!!!
