Introduction ... and a few pictures since we are at it

I can't tell for sure, but I'm wondering if this is the same knife I ended up with....

It is, for sure. Same one in my avatar.

Very Nice masterserg, I see you prefer exotic damascus on your blades:thumbup:

I also like your avatar, this photo comes from the actual place of the event.

That is a brilliant shot Dino! I really wish I can go there some day! It would be a dream come true for me! Not looking likely at the moment for different reasons. I lost my chance during my multiple years living in Europe.

I like all kinds of blades, exotic damascus, simple damascus (is there such a thing?), plain stainless ... I really like the way William Henry does damascus .. I have a B12 with the copper/VG5 which is simply stunning!

I hear ya, there's something about the art of creating damascus that really does it for me. A knife is a knife but when you add damascus, it's like your adding a soul (no two damascus blades are the same) and that's what makes it appealing to me.

I was actually born not too far from where battle in Thermopylae took place and the pictures are from the yearly observance (reenactment) that occurs in September. I hope you make it there one day, its worth it.

My gosh ..... the things you learn here on BF!!!! Spent a week in Greece in 1976, mainly stayed in Athens .... but did take a day trip up that way while there. Amazing. Oh .... and, it should come as no surprise, I share your view on Damascus!!!

The only bit of wisdom I can offer is, if there is something you like (and you can afford it without neglecting basic needs, bills, etc.) buy it, like, right now ... no hesitation ... because once it is gone, it is gone forever.

This statement reminds me of a knife I passed up a couple years ago that I am still kicking myself over. Some of you may remember it from when it was posted on this forum several years ago. I tried to find some old pictures of it but I couldn't find any. It was a Mnandi with a Zebra Damascus blade and inner cut ivory inlays. The owner had the knife scrimshawed with an African scene that had some Zebras that kind of flowed into the blade. I think it is the nicest CR knife I have ever seen (in pictures anyway).

It was offered for sale on ebay but the reserve was never met. I spent many hours debating if I should buy it. I think I bid it up to $900 but still didn't met the reserve and then gave up. I wish I could do that one over. Does anyone remember that knife?

Wow ... stunning that is!

I think all collectors come to this realization (of being swift and decisive) at one point or another, usually at the cost of some painful lost opportunity. I tried to apply the steel out / steel in principle only to lose what I wanted and sell my pieces one week or one day later.

I know what you're saying about regrets. I didn't see this one on ebay until the auction was over, I'd have grabbed it so quick.... :(
