I see a ton of new posters lately. How bout another introductions thread. Post a pic of you if ya want. Alot of us know eachother already, but I like seein the new faces, and learning a bit about them. As im sure the newer guys would like to meet some of the regulars. We need to get this forum back to the tight knit community it once was. We all share a common interest, so lets put differances aside and learn some skills!!!

Im Jake. Been here for about 6 years. Posted alot. Ive got a big mouth.....:D

Ive been into the outdoors since boyhood. Ive taken classes with The Midwest School of Bushcraft, but have learned alot around here and other places.

Good idea J  With spring time here, I bet we'll see a lot more activity. And hopefully pics, I always enjoy pics from people posting from around the US and all over the world.

As for me, I've been into the outdoors since I was a kid. Used to go shooting and fishing with my dad and grandpa. Then got into backpacking and practicing survival skills in Scouts. I remember getting Tom Brown's wilderness survival book when I was around 13. Carried it into the mountains every weekend and practiced everything I could. Later I found Ron Hood's videos and poured over those.

I am fortunate that Christopher Nyerges teaches not too far from me (he's on the right in the pic). I've taken several classes from him on useful and edible plants, friction fire, traps, bow making, cordage, containers. All kinds of stuff.

Enough rambling. That's me on the left, the beautiful bald bastid :D

Hi Jake! :)

My name's Grady. I've been enjoying the outdoors all my life, and always had an interest in the survival aspect of things, but it wasn't too long before I found Bladeforums that I started really getting into W+SS/bushcraft type stuff. I've made a few real life friends from here, and have learned a ton. I'm trying to cut down on, and simplify, the gear aspect of things(at least the gear buying aspect) and focus more on the skills aspect.

Great idea Jake!

I'm Tony.

In the short time I have been here I learned allot. I have taken courses at The Wilderness Learning Center, and attended many other Outdoor skills based meet ups where I have learned more. I have made quite a few friends from this forum and allot of them are very close friends now.

I love sharing my experience with others, and teaching the little I know to those willing to learn. I look forward to learning more everyday from reading others' posts and practicing other techniques when I get out.

I'm most definitely a new poster to the forums. I lurked for a while until I thought I had something of substance to add. I grew up hunting/fishing/camping and did the Boy Scout thing with expeditions to the boundary waters etc. I've since camped all over the country. I typically have used the Boy Scout flint and steel to start the first fire of every trip but that is about as low tech as i've gone. Most of the time I'm car camping but I occasionally do backpacking.

I'm just starting to learn the more primitive skills. I'm signed up for a course at the end of June so I'm trying to get a little more up to speed.

I don't have any photos but I have a youtube channel. You can see my hands. LOL! I'm a little camera shy.

Great pics guys......Thanks for postin.

86 views and 4 replies. Dont be shy! You dont have to even post a pic of yourselves. Just an introduction! :)

I've been all over this forum since I started almost 2 years ago. This is my favorite internet place. I really learn a lot here to add to my skills. I'm 48 and still learn some skills to tuck up my sleeve. My wife's Filipino...that's where hiwa comes from. Means a slice or to cut something. I'm a bit lazy with the camera , but I'm trying :o Lots of great people here. I'm learning how to bend leather now, thanks to the sheaths and such sub-forum. This place is great !!

I been fishing all my life , but I got it sorted who does what.

Good idea Jake. About time I introduce myself.
My name is Cris. I love being outdoors and I have a weakness for fine, sharp steel.....
I discovered this forums about 2 years ago....learned a lot since. Great people here, been honored to meet few of them. Still learning, probably always will. Once in a while I share opinions based on my own experience.
Here's me, cooling off after a hot summer day hike, somewhere in Yosemite...

Hello all,

I kind of have a hard time with online bios/introductions because I always get that “long walks on the beach” feeling. I’ll do my best to fight that instinct and post anyway.

My name is Brandon, I’m 28 year old father of a wonderul 2 year old girl with another girl due early in August. With two girls in the house, I'm stockpiling ammo already. A note to any young men reading this 14 years from now!

As a kid in rural WV I spent a lot of time in the woods. Sometimes it would be building forts with friends, or hunting, camping, and fishing with Dad. This love of the woods led me to major in Wildlife and Fisheries at WVU. During college I had the opportunity to have the best “work” study job on campus. I was hired by WVU’s Outdoor Recreation Center to work in there gear rental shop. We rented outdoor gear and took students on a variety of weekend trips. This exposed me to outdoor pursuits outside of what Dad was interested in, such as backpacking and mountain biking. After some time with the ORC I was able to serve as an assistant trip leader on a couple of extended trips over winter and spring break.

After college I was hired on by the Natural Resources Conservation Service as a soil conservationist. I’m incredibly blessed to have a job that I love and a wonderful family. I haven’t been able to spend as much time backpacking as I did in college, but I still try to squeeze a few trips in every year and I do spend a lot of time outside, even if it’s just working around the property.

Oh yeah, I forgot to say that I love knives! I’m not a serious collector, but I' have been picking up a few custom pieces from our talented resident makers as $$$ allows. So far I've been lucky enough to own woods blades from JK, Koyote, Bailey, and NWA. The only steel I'm waiting on right now is from Mr. Andy Roy and I'm quite sure it will be worth the wait. I have been playing around making a knife here and there, my first is posted in my sig line. Let me know what you think!

I’d also add that the folks on these forums seem to be some of the most generous that I’ve ever encountered online. You folks are truly first class.

Brandon

you bet.Right on Jake. Great hobby and cheaper than buying knives. I'm maxed out with knives but had to keep the love going:p
The steps are easy to follow. The design and making it look good in the end is the hard part;)

:D hahaha....yeah. Ive found that the looks come with experiance. Each piece looks better then the previous.

hello, everyone. i'm jay and i lived in the philippines until i was 13 so it doesn't take a survival situation for me to eat bugs. heck, i'd pay good money right now to have sauteed ant eggs and other bugs :D i was really into guns & cars before joining here but now i tend to hike and mountain bike.

pics...i always look either crazy when i'm holding a machete.
