Introductions

My names Dan, I've been on BF for a while, and like to post. I also try to learn as much as I can in WSS. I've had the pleasure of meeting a lot of BF members, and the WSS and Traditional people are always the best. I ride a desk for a living, but am trying to make it to the woods every chance I get. My skills are nil compared to most of the people here, but I am out there learning and having a good time.

Thanks for being a part of the community and sharing a bit about yourselves guys. Familiar faces, and some new ones too. If this were my forum, Id make this thread a sticky, and highly encourage new members to post in it before joining in on discussions. It pushes that sense of community. When you see pics and read backstories, it puts a human side to the screen name.

My name's Owen McMurrey, and I'm about to be 40:eek:
Cub Scouts, Webelos, Boy Scouts, Airborne Infantryman...grew up mostly in suburbs but got to spend time in the summers with my grandfather, shooting and fishing, in addition to the scouting. My outdoor activities gradually lessened through my late 20s, and became rare occasions through most of my 30s.
After about ten years of only camping a few times per year, a couple years ago I decided to start getting outdoors more after a canoeing daytrip. Since, I bought a sit-on-top kayak, went whitewater rafting(have a phobia of moving water:rolleyes:), started hiking frequently, got into rock climbing and rappelling, and have had the opportunity to visit Nevada and southwestern Utah two years in a row. Planning a third trip to Zion National Park before winter, and hoping to branch out and see some new National Parks out West in the near future. I'm pretty hooked.
Now in the process of prepping for self-belayed toproping, so maybe I can climb solo in the morning after work without it interfering with hiking on my off days, and could let me get outside as much as 4-5 days per week(!!).
Aside from mowing the grass, I love anything that's physical and gets me outdoors.
40's going to be a good year...

My name is Andy. I live in Harford County, Maryland. I've had a love for the outdoors all my life. I also enjoy hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, shooting, archery, drinking, and lovin almost in that order. :D Been married for almost 15 years and have two sons age 5 and 10 that also share my love for the outdoors. I enjoy reading the experiences of others on here, but I don't post very often. I've had the pleasure of meeting some people from the forum and have had a great time with everyone that I've met.

my name is Mike, reside in Montana, age- old enough to know better :) have been relatively active on the W&SS forums for a little over a year and have gleaned a lot of good info and chatted with a lot of nice folks

I'm very fortunate in that I was able to make a career working in the great outdoors; and when I'm not working in the outdoors, most likely that's where I'm playing

I love small animals, clear sky and sharp blades.
Favorite activities are backcountry skiing, alpine climbing, caving and cycling.
I occasionally build blades, so far to use them by myself.

Howdy fellas. My name is Brian and I originally stumbled across the Makers forum because I was looking for info on how to make a knife. Since then I've learned how big it is around here and I visit WSS daily. I'm a union finish carpenter and in my 30s. Growing up, we had horses, fished and camped a lot so the outdoors is nothing new. Thanks to shows like "Survivorman" I've been introduced to the world of survival and bushcraft and I am learning like many of you. I've always collected knives but here something happened that I never expected. I found....CUSTOM KNIFE MAKERS! Life will never be the same.
Thanks to you all here, I've learned plenty about survival preparedness. We now have a BOB in the house. And currently both vehicles have a GHB. We get outside as much as possible and I'm thankful my wife loves the outdoors.

I come from a long line of hunter/gatherers.

The truth is my ancesters swam in the oceans and crawled in the mud before getting up off the ground.

Over many generations we learned to adapt to the changing conditions.

As time passed we learned many skills to help us survive in the wilderness.

I try to keep the old family traditions alive, and as such, I still hunt and gather.

Oh yeah, ...I'm a little fellow named Bob.

Hi guys, I'm Steve. 45 years young Been here a few years and learned a TON. I work in retail sales and practice martial arts for fun (30 years!). I call a few guys here friends even though we have yet to meet. I don't get as much dirt time as I would like, and I aim to change that. Ever since Scouts I have had a love of edged tools.
Thanks to all who post for sharing their time, knowledge, and pics. This is a fun place to hang around!

I'm Chris. Did light backpacking with my dad when I was young and was in a SAR group in high school. Always been into survival and self reliance but just got back into camping last year with my girlfriend. I've done more camping with her in 8 months than I had in the past 20 years.

Hello all,

I'm Russell. I love being outside. So far, I mostly day hike and car camp, but I'm looking to get into backpacking soon (once I stop buying knives long enough to buy proper backpacking gear:o). I never had anyone to teach me "skills," so I must say I've learned quite a bit here in W&SS and from videos made by members over these past 2.5 years. I used to be a kid who'd throw an old GI canteen, ham and cheese sandwich, swap-meet pocket knife (dull), old flashlight, and liquor-store lighter into a beat-up jansport backpack, call it good, and hit the trail...hell, before I joined the forums I didn't even know how to tie a bowline

I think I know a little more now...or at least enough to know how much I don't know :D I've experimented over the past couple of years and have been figuring out what works for me and what doesn't. I now consider myself to be practicing basic skills, beginning to pick up "advanced" skills (friction fire and better land nav, this is your year:cool:), and refining the gear that supplements and supports the skills.

Thanks to the old W&SS crew, and welcome to the new guys :)

Well I don't have any pics like some of the great ones you guys have but I'll give this a go.

My names Jon and I'm a 23 year old who works way too much and doesn't get to spend much time with my wife and daughter or get outdoors often enough. I'm a former military brat and when I wasn't relocating all over the country I was back home on the family farm in Indiana. I've been involved with the Scouts for most of my life and after getting my Eagle Scout I spent a couple years in the Army until I had to take a medical discharge. I try to spend as much time hiking, camping, fishing, hunting and shooting as I can but being young with a new family, a time consuming job and going to school I don't get out as much as I'd like. It is nice to meet you all and I guess I need to stop lurking as much.

Im Josh, alot of you know me from other forums. I like to hunt, fish, and primitive camp. I am an eagle scout, and I too have attended The Midwest School Of Bushcraft. Im here to learn and discuss anything "outdoors".

Hello, my name is Bob. Been a member here just over a year, but have learned ten fold in that time. THANKS !!!
I have always liked the outdoors especially in the fall/winter. I love to hike, camp, canoe, fish, a little hunting, and now practicing bushcraft.
My wife does some of the above with us 60 % of the time but mostly its my daughter and I trekking through the woods or taking the canoe out fishing. I enjoy spending time with her and teaching her what took me many years to learn on my own.
