Iron Dragons

I've never ordered directly from Emerson, are you provided with a tracking number? I haven't received one yet, I'm anxious to get this one in my hands! :D

In the times I have ordered direct a tracking no. was not provided. I have heard if you request it they will send it. I have not received mine as of today's mail either! Ah the wait!

^^ Hex screws are the norm for the framelocks like the HD7 and HD12. I've taken mine apart probably a dozen times now fiddling with it. Just make sure you put it back together with the hardened washers against the handle slabs, not the blade. Don't over tighten the bearing pivot! I have already seen a couple Sheepdogs with warped/deformed washers from such! If confident, hammer them back to a flat profile on a vise or similar.

I thought mine was off center on the blade but the entire blade is off center through the whole handle being that the recess for the bearings weren't cut a even depths on per side. Deeper on the G10 side so the blade ends up sitting closer to that side as a whole. The spacing between the standoffs and the adjusted pivot is the same so it might have been intentional.

The drilling in the blade is certainly larger than the detent ball. Mine had some play/slop while in the closed position with about 1/8" of movement at the tip of the blade. There is also the miniscule amount of movement from the lockbar flexing that little bit before the closed detent ball pops out of the blade. Another thing that can cause this is the fact that a small bur/curl along the outer edge of the lockbar insert can prohibit the detent ball from seating all the way in.

Remember that if you modify or file at anything, your warranty on the knife is VOID!

Thanks for the info Ray!

Tracking number is usually provided if you choose UPS, I have never received a number for US Mail delivery, though.

Got mine yesterday, by far the smoothest knife I've ever owned. I've seen people talk about the blade falling once the lock is released, this knife actually cut me under its own weight of the blade closing. Lock up is early without any play.

I'm not sure how I feel about how easily the blade can move under its own weight. I cut the bleep out of myself not once but twice with my ZT0560 because of this. Time will tell but I might not be a bearing guy.

X2 to this ^^^ I just don't know about the bearings, think I would have preferred washers.

Got mine last night and I am definitely impressed. Detent is tight easy to open with no play when closed on both. With the Bearings they wave even easier than the ZT Emerson models. Both are well centered when closed. Lockup on the SF is about half way across the tang with minimal stick and the BT has very early lockup with quite a bit of stickyness. My thumb is pretty sore from playing with it last night. As for the blade closing too fast that is how it is with these knives with bearings, just gotta be a bit more cautious when closing them. The only thing I would change is the hardware on the BT, I would have preferred black on it. Overall a great design.

Thanks for the pics steely, I agree, the bt would look better with black hardware. Especially the thumb disk.

Also, does anybody else notice the bt in the pics looks smaller than the sf? Optical illusions!!

I did notice that, and it appears that way in the first ,second, and forth pics.

I agree about the BT hardware, but stoked to see an old school domed thin-slot pivot screw, and internal lock cutaway.

I'd love to see closed pics, particularly side by side with a Commander.

Length of blade and handle are almost identical to the Commander. I like the more rounded butt and lack of jimping. The silver hardware is growing on me but this sticky lock is destroying my thumb, hopefully after a week or so it will become easier to disengage. Most of my users lose their stickyness pretty quick.

With a steel insert, there shouldn't be any stick unless something has been done wrong. I'm wondering what the origin of the stickiness is because the whole point of the steel insert on a framelock is to reduce wear and eliminate galling. If the lock is that sticky, I would consider sending it to be serviced. That doesn't sound right to me.

^^ I think it's simple a situation where the 2 metals which are different in hardness and need to wear into each other. My has a little stickiness to it but it's not the same stickiness like with a titanium lockbar. 2 semi rough interfaces causing a little friction between each other. Should wear in with no issues. You can always touch the interface with a Sharpie or pencil but the stickiness shouldn't be that bad, eventually gone.

Both of my ZT 0562s were really sticky (not quite as bad as this) and the one I have used is not anymore. I have had quite a few sticky steel liner locks that after a bit of use smooth themselves out, Spyderco Starmate was painful. I am gonna give it a chance before sending it in. Hopefully I won't have to.

ETA: Lockup has gone to about halfway across the tang and is not nearly as sticky anymore. Not perfect but MUCH better. It seems that the harder I open it the less it sticks. It's still only been 3 days so I'd say it is breaking in nicely. It has developed some play while closed, which isn't a big deal to me but I remember it being asked before so I figured I'd let you know.

Recieved mine today as well.
Noticed that when in closed position the blade rattles a little bit. Seems like the detent hole is too large for the detent ball? Anyone else have this on theirs?

Same here. Detent hole does seem too large.
