Been away from the shop, forums and pretty much everything else for the last few months taking care of health stuff. Wanted to stop in to say hi and share what I've been doing recently to save what little sanity I have left:)

Over the years I've accumulated quite a few knives I've made that something or another bothered me about each one, nothing serious mostly aesthetic issues. I've been wanting to do something with these and this seems to be the perfect time to take each one and try to fix what bothers me. Feels great to be back in the shop a little bit, I should have enough "drawer knives" that I can do this until I'm able to fully return to making.

I made this one about 7 years ago, just finished reworking and making a sheath for it. It had an etched blade that I didn't really care for so I put on a hand rubbed finish, that was the main thing I did other than fine tuning and making the sheath. I wanted to change the shape of the handle a little but that meant redoing the file worked spacer and I'm not ready for that right now. 7 1/2" o.a.l. knife and sheath together weighs in at just under 3oz's

Thanks for having a look,
Dave

Dave, That's a beautiful knife and sheath. Hope you get back to your shop full time soon.

Regards

Robin

Dave that is very nice and I do not think I have ever seen it done like that. I hope things keep going well for you.

Beautiful, Dave.......the fit and finish is exemplary my friend.

Your leather-work is of the same high level. :)

I'm new around here, but if this is any indication to the work you have posted in the past, I can certainly see why you were missed. Very classy folder.

I'm glad to hear you're taking care of health stuff. Always good to take care of it before it takes care of you!
This particular distraction of yours is real nice on the eyes. I hope we get to see more of your 'sanity saving' projects:thumbup:

Very cool piece Dave, a real beauty.
Its good to see you back on here, your work is always an inspiratrion and a real pleasure to look at.

Thanks again you guys, I really appreciate it!!

Went through my drawer knives earlier and think this will be my next one to work on, something about the bolster spacers I want to change, think I'll also jewel the liners and bronze anodize the titanium. I'm not going to make a new blade!, can't put my finger on it but something about the blade shape has always bothered me.
I'll probably use this handle profile again, blade will have a long drop point with swedge, hollow ground with a slight recurve (that's my plan for now anyway:)).

I really love both knives. The wood looks great on both. I carry a custom folder with a blade shape very similar to the second knife you posted and find that blade shape just about perfect for any of my uses. Hope to see more of your work and hope your health will soon allow you to spent more time with your art.

Dave,

Both of the knives are great. Your work is always super clean. I sure don't see a problem with the blade shape. Maybe I need a closer look!?! Send it to me and I'll give you some feedback!:D

Glad to see you are back and hopefully all your health issues are healed soon.
Your knives are truly wonderful to see.

Thanks,

Kelly

Hey Dave,
Great to see you working on those knives. I remember years back when I had a couple of your knives,,they were great. I kept telling you, even then, you were to tough on yourself.

Thanks,
Phillip Doss
