Is a knife an accessory?

Is a knife an accessory?
Not when you need to slice or cut something.

....But she keeps on telling me it's an accessory. That carry it around because pretty...
That's precisely why some men carry the knives they carry. It is then an accessory. A knife is an accessory when you think twice about using it or loathe using it for fear of somehow marring it or dulling the blade to slice or cut something for which the knife is the proscribed tool.

For her, it's an accessory like the jewelry and bobbles she wears.

For you, it's a tool.

Are the knives in the kitchen an accessory or essential tool?

BUT ... no sense in arguing about it. "Happy wife, happy life."

Tis better to simply agree with her and smile to yourself knowing you are right.

That's a pretty shallow generalization lol.

Wow. Calling another members' opinion "shallow" and then laughing at it is really insulting. :thumbdn:

On the topic, I think of a knife like I think of a shirt. I need to wear a shirt today, and I like wearing shirts that fit, are comfortable, are well made , and look decent.

Though, I don't have any custom made shirts....

It's time to deflect the argument. Convince her that her jewelry and bling aren't accessories either, but tools used to capture your attention.

No need to deflect..... knives are both accessories and tools. She's right. You're right.

If only I could choose which car/truck to drive based on my daily mood or how it matches the rest of my wardrobe.

Is a watch an accessory? For the most part, I need a watch, but I could use my cell phone for check the time. More tools.....

For me, a knife is both a tool and an accessory. I work in an office environment, so I tend to buy smaller knives that are fun to play with and/or pocket jewelry. They're fully capable of performing as quality tools when necessary, but are more often there just for pleasure.

quick question for you guys I just had an hour long argument with my girl fighting over if a knife is an accessory. I told her it's not told her it was a tool used as a tool and that's it. But she keeps on telling me it's an accessory. That carry it around because pretty...

You won the argument ,lol.:)

I let the wife think she won the discussion , conversation lasts only 2 minutes , and continue with my day. :p

Been happily married for over 20 yrs and she's more than accepted anything about me knife related.

Sharpening gear ,lube, storage bins, etc. are accessories.;)

Arguing for an hour over such trivial stuff? Find a new girlfriend, because it isn't gonna get any better...

It's whatever she says it is. Until you are out walking around and she needs a string cut or a tag snipped off or a clamshell package opened, its an accessory.

In short, until SHE needs it, it's not a tool :D

I've been married to my wife for 10 years and dated her 10 years before that. I learned a long time ago to just let things ride. The plus side, most ladies will come around. My wife isn't shocked at all that the knife I am using to cut down our daughter's straw at a restaurant likely costs more than our meal:D She knows the value of letting me carry what I want as its useful:)

The decision to carry a knife (for EDC) is a convenience in nearly all situations. Gazillions of people don't carry a knife and survive the hassle of walking to get a knife or gnawing the potatoe chip bag open with their teeth. If you like to live dangerously, you can make this point next time she asks to borrow your knife. "Is it a necessity?", you might ask.

The decision of which EDC knife to carry is 99.9% a fashion decision. This can easily be seen on the forums by noting how happy other people are with knives that make you suppress your gag reflex.

I will let the IRS make the determination... tool or accessory.... I write off the cost of "some" knives as tools, but don't with others that I feel are un-necessary for work. Is a multi-tool an accessory or tool?... it even has "tool" its name. For me, it is a tool and I expense them. I also loose them.

Pants are the real accessory. I only wear them so I have a pocket to put my knife in.

It just doesn't get any clearer than that. My Dad gave me one of his old dull Barlow's when I was about 6 or 7. Sixty years later & I don't think I've ever left the house without a knife.
