Is a knife an accessory?

Thanks for the responses. I guess now I see how it can be viewed as both.

Yup, my thoughts exactly. Depends on the knife, and the circumstances of carrying, but definitely can be both.

ac·ces·so·ry
əkˈses(ə)rē/
noun
1.
a thing that can be added to something else in order to make it more useful, versatile, or attractive.
"a range of bathroom accessories"
synonyms: attachment, extra, addition, add-on, adjunct, appendage, appurtenance, fitment, supplement

Accurately, it's paraphernalia.

So that's why the LEOs get excited when they find me with a knife!

I have been reading all the comments to my wife. You guys have had her laughing for the last 15 minutes. Man jewelry! She loved that. According to her, a knife is an accessory because it is something you don't need. I responded back with, "A knife is a necessity. I would like to see you prepare meals for the next week without a knife." I get the feeling that I will be eating canned soup for the next seven days unless I do the cooking.

A knife is essential gear or kit that gets carried everyday that serves a specific purpose, just like a watch, set of car keys, flashlight or wallet.

I don't care if any piece of gear matches with my outfit or not FWIW. :foot::rolleyes:

It's only man jewelry if you're someone who carries a knife but never uses it like many of the Instagram knife guys LOL... Shots fired. ;) You know who you are... :p

Ah, but watches and wallets most certainly are accessories, despite also serving a need. :)

I think people have this idea that accessories must be useless to count as such.
Or perhaps it's the "Real men don't accessorize!" sentiment. ;)

So, the same as what I'm saying but different, right?... ;):D

That reminds me of the people that only carry a cell phone because it has their E-wallet and a "flashlight" on the back of it LOL... All bases covered.:foot:

All my cellphone does is phone. :D
Well, it does have a 2 megapixel camera on it...
I usually don't even have it turned on.

When my watch stopped working, I had to leave the stupid phone on so I could check the time...that sucked.

This sounds an awful lot like the continuing controversy over Harley Davidson: Is it a motorcycle, or is it butt jewelry?

I think we're seeing a case of "I'm a manly man, and manly men don't have accessories. Grrr."

That's how I'm reading many of the responses. ;)

I would for sure call it both. I carry a knife because it is a tool that is useful, but a $10 knife will do all that I would need. In spite of that I have lots of knives in my rotation and most of them cost quite a bit more than $10...

Point 1: Don't argue with women, their brains are small and don't work very well, watch Borat for further information.

Point 2: I think the necessity/accessory argument is really a matter of semantics. If you need a knife to complete the tasks you have in front of you in your daily life, it is a necessity...you could really consider anything beyond clothes and shoes to be an accessory, the importance of such can run the spectrum of need versus luxury.
