Is anybody else scared to lend their knives?

I will loan people at work my box knife. That's it as far a loaning goes. For my EDC away from work no one uses it but me. If they need and know how to use a super sharp knife, they should have their own. May be I'm selfish but I don't loan guns or vehicles either.

+1 on that!

I let this friggin Factory Processor at work barrow my BRAND NEW IZULA. He attempting to cut a hose off of a fitting. I was up on a scaffold and couldn't really see what he was doing, and when I got it back, no edge! It was a butter knife. It took me over an hour to resharpen using a DMT Xtra Coarse and Sharp Maker. I guess he may have been trying to saw through the metal hose fitting. I don't let factory processors barrow knives anymore. I also started carrying my Leatherman Mirca again, that blade is easy to sharpen at least.

I will only lend a knife to someone if 1. They know what they're doing. 2. I know what they are going to use it for.

People do stupid things with knives. I usually do whatever they need for them.

That's just a bad idea overall, alot of people use knives for screwdrivers, prybars, ect. ect. You'll end up with a broken knife in the end. Just carry an old butter knife to lend out. :D

I have no problem lending cheaper and/or easily replacible knives to friends like my USMC Ka-Bar, Buck 119, machetes etc but my more expensive peices I'd be much more hesitant to loan out.

No lending, I will cut whatever they need to have cut.

Knives are in the same category as firearms and good power tools. They should not be lended out unless you are prepared to buy a replacement.

I have a few (two, I think) friends who know what it is to look after expensive/fragile equipment, they are the exception.
Everyone else gets to hear me laugh at them while they struggle. I'm done having razor edges ruined in front of me.

Just say NO! to lending knives.

I don't lend knives anymore. It seems that everytime I lend a knife, the person either damages the edge, or damages themselves because they are not properly schooled in the use of truely sharp knives.

I pass out Rough Riders to folks that want to borrow a knife, that way they get a knife of passable quality and I am out about $10.

I don't lend knives, either. I'll be glad to cut something for someone, but I figure if they knew how to properly handle and care for a (relativly) expensive knife, they would have one of their own.

If you really have the need to be a nice guy and lend knives just get some cheap Chinese knives . Give the guy your cheap knife and forget about it !

I don't loan out my Knives..... my Guns... My wife.... yeah, that's pretty much it...

Cause I figure if your not smart enough to have a knife on you in the first place, then your not smart enough to use one......;)

I will let me dad or my brother borrow my knife. I will not let anyone else. If they need something cut I will do it. For two reasons; one I want my knife to remain in good shape and two, I don't want them cutting themselves.

I don't loan anything out.

I loaned a buddy of mine a set of headphones in 1987. I never saw them again. That was the last time I loaned anything out.

No way my knives are going in someone else's mitts. If they need something cut, I'll cut it for them and then shame them for not having the gumption to carry one of their own.

If someone needs something cut, I'll usually do it for them. If they need to do some prying, I'll pull out a Gerber Artifact. If they need a screwdriver, I have keychain tools, as well as a Sears Craftsman 4-way driver. If they need to open a can, I have a P-51 in my wallet. Use the right tool for the right job.

Exactly. Very well put, sir.
