Is anybody else scared to lend their knives?

If your at a knifeshow and have some package/box that needs opening, ask anyone got a knife to open this, guaranteed, about a dozen knives will appear:D:D:D

The last knife I loaned was a Leatherman multi-tool. Loaned it to a good friend so that he could slice watermelon at a picnic.

I did not see the Leatherman again for over a year, when I coincidentally found it on the floor of his car, filthy dirty with rust spots and a broken tip on the knife blade.

This friend is a great guy, just irresponsible with material things, but it kind of soured me on the whole loaning folks my cutlery thing.

Yes, I'm scared to lend them... which is why I don't do it. Even someone who claims to be a knifenut can get on my bad side by "expertly" flipping a knife open and closed, letting the edge hit very hard objects, letting chicken goo run down into the scales, etc etc.

I let my step brother (who I trust implicitly with guns and other related things) use my Benchmade Skirmish to open up a deer one morning and I almost died watching him. I decided at that point never to loan a nice knife out.

When I finally get around to buying a couple nice chef knives for the kitchen I'll expect THEM to get used by a few people but there will be rules (ie, clean off and store after using...not three hours later in the bottom of the sink...etc)

i m assuming that those wonderful knife ignorant folks who tend borrow a knife from knifenuts just haven't a clue as to just how much a good knife could cost; worst yet, quite possibly a prime candidate for committing the worst travesty ever by possibly ruining the absolute pride 'n joy of a knifenut.

"scared" implies that the thought of lending my knife to someone else to use in a nonemergency is actually going through my head.

I assure you, it is not lol.

In class the other day, I gave my brand new small "credit card" multitool to my friend so he could have a look at it. He proceeded to use the blade edge to try and sharpen a paperclip so he could scratch his name into the desk.

Needless to say, he will not be touching another knife of mine.

one time when we were at the firing range, a very good friend, who i trust with any of my guns, wanted to borrow my millie because he wanted to cut off a small plastic protrusion in a fobus. the piece of plastic was in the interior so only the tip of my millie could get to it. needless to say I said no.

When i hike a carry a Mora in my pack. It's my lend knife.I saw a guy eying my NWA Sierra scout one day.You should have seen the scowl when i handed him that old green plastic Mora.LOL
