is anyone but me excited for the domino?

Like Powernoodle said, it's a sweet knife, but I wouldn't bite unless it was priced closer to the Sage 2.
I LOVE my Sage 1 and 2, so this would be right up my alley because they look like brothers, but not for $210.

They also developed a bearing pivot system for it. If this were the tenth knife using this technology it would be cheaper. Even though XHP is not as impressive as S90V and 204P, it is still bought in very low quantities, thus it is more expensive. Think about how much S30V Spyderco goes through. Sal has said their margins are very similar across the board, so that means the cost are higher than most people realize. The Sage is hard to come by @ $150 anymore. It has slowly gotten more expensive.

I was until I saw the price:( I' m still hoping for Spyderco to come up with a more affordable flipper. Right now I just can' t shell out that kind of money on a knife.

I was. I had it in my cart ( preorder), but then I decided that it didn't really fill a gap in my collection, since I already have the Southard. Perhaps if it were a bit smaller.

I'd love to get one but I definitely cannot afford it now. Hopefully down the line. It has so many features I like.

XHP is pretty great for my uses
I like it more than s30v

Been looking at this one for a while. I need to see more pics of it before I pull the trigger and order/pre-order.

I've read this one has a steel lockbar insert. Is this a sure thing?

Yes, a lockbar insert also.

Domino

Designed by Eric Glesser, the Domino is the second Spyderco knife to feature a Kit Carson-inspired flipper opener. Its full-flat-ground blade is machined from premium CTS™ XHP steel and rides on specially designed ball bearing washers for an ultra-smooth opening action. The handle features a solid titanium scale on one side and a titanium liner and black Cubic Check Carbon Fiber Laminate scale on the other. The titanium scale houses a high-strength Reeve Integral Lock (R.I.L.) mechanism with a steel interface that serves double duty as an overtravel stop. For ease and versatility of carry, the Domino also includes a black, four-position pocket clip.

Sounds like quite a bit of engineering to refine the finer details to me. I have no issues paying for this one, and think it will best the Southard in the small Spyderco flipper world.

Thanks nncole, I had read a few different descriptions but that one is straight from the horses mouth. To me, $210 is a great but for this knife. Bearing system, excellent steel, lsteel insert, and I like the glass laminate myself. This is a must-have for me.

I'll compare the Domino to Spyderco's only other flipper, the Southard. One of the cool things about the Southard was that it was meant to be opened only with the flipper. Sure, the spyderhole was there, but it was mainly for decoration and wasn't meant to be used to open the knife. I think the southard is one of the thinnest large knives that Spyderco makes, being slightly thinner than even the dragonfly. Sacrificing the spyderhole allowed Spyderco to make the Southard a much thinner knife than what they normally make because you need a big blade to drill a finger size hole through it.

The Domino looks pretty sweet, but they made the decision to have it both ways: a flipper and a spyderhole. From the pics, I think it kind of looks like a high-end Sage 2. I'm hoping Spyderco makes some more flippers, but closer in-line to the Southard, or other awesome flippers like the Kershaw Leek or Skyline.

Actually, I'm thinking that a low-end version of a flipper to complement the Tenacious line would be a great idea. I'd buy one in 8CR13MOV. They could use the same pivot design as the Tenacious line and just modify the blade shape and stop pin placement to incorporate a flipper.

It has a wide blade but at least it doesn't have a super thick handle like the southard. Only reason I don't have one. 210 is great for what you get. The sage 2 is listed at $185 on the same website.

IMO, a spyderco without a spyderhole is pointless. My favorite opening mechanism around and to pair it with the flipper has got me jumping for joy

I'm excited about it....
Being Invested into some projects right now I will not be getting one right away but I will get one at some point..

GP is now selling these. Little bit better price for those concerned about the cost. They report they will have their first shipment Wednesday.

Excellent!
This is going to be a great month. A Southard and a Domino delivered. :)

Just put in my order, talked to cs and said they are going to get like 50 of them on tue. or wed.

Asked them if i am high enough on the list to get one and she said they have enough coming in for now to meet ALL the preorders... yeah!

I'm calling kc right now and canceling my preorder thru them, gp has them cheaper! thanks nccole!

I just received shipping notification and a tracking number from my pre-order at GP :D

I'm very excited for this knife; it has everything I like about Spyderco knives, and it adds a flipper. Not only does it have a flipper, but it has a forward choil, which is somewhat rare on flippers. This alleviates one of my biggest complaints with flippers, as I find the flipper tends to push back the grip more so than on non-flipping knives, making them more difficult to choke up for precision/controlled cutting.

Anyway, I can't wait to get this knife. It's looking to me like it might be a very good EDC knife.
